    Probably didn’t because (among, I’m sure, other reasons) the SNES was such a major upgrade over the NES that it would’ve drawn a negative comparison between the lesser difference of the Switch 2 versus the Switch. Younger audiences wouldn’t get it/wouldn’t care, and older audiences would see it as pandering/unwarranted.

    Could also be that audiences were still wary of the whole Wii/Wii U debacle and just wanted reassurance that it’d be “more of the same but better”.

    And lastly, if they wanted a “Switch 3” in the future, it’s been shown by Xbox that funny naming schemes can go awry after the second iteration.
