The machines throw error codes that can only be cleared by a service visit for something that should be as simple as a clean and reset. It incentivizes machines that fail often and disincentivizes the franchisee from actually keeping the machine running.

There’s a servicing contract thing that happens with them here, so they’re probably engineered to break down often. Walk into a modern factory anywhere in this country and tell me their machines break down like that. It’s absurd.
It’s rather that the machines give generic errors with no useful info, requiring calling for service. And if the minimum wage workers don’t follow the instructions correctly for cleaning it will fail, but won’t give an error until the end of the process hours later.
They’re not actually broken, it’s just a cleaning process that is easy to do wrong when you don’t care because you’re paid pennies.
I’ve also heard it’s just a long process, so if they’re backed up with orders, “it’s broken” again. :p
