I will ensure I lift the seat before I go, you ensure you lower the seat before you go.
We can both be responsible!
Yeah whenever you flush paricles fly everywhere with ot up so if you have uncovered toothbrushes they get a peppering of poo.
Everyone closes the lid completely when they’re done. Problem solved. Equality established. World peace flourishes.
Toilet has lid for a reason, to cover it when not in use. I am constantly flabbergasted that more people don’t get that. Do they leave the mayo lidless in the fridge too because it makes it easier to make a sandwich??
The lid is only for blocking the toilet if you are about to risk dropping something in there accidentally. If you aren’t doing anything complicated in the bathroom or need to sit or stand on the lid for some reason, it’s just in the way.
Otherwise, keep the lid up and the seat down for quick access in diarrhea situations.
If you have pets ymmv.
That’s what I do but my sister said it can evidently grow mold on the seat cover if you don’t use it for a few days :(
We keep the lids down on our toilets to keep the dogs and cats out of them. Never seen mold growing on them at all. We have plastic, slow-close lids though. Maybe regular lids are more prone to that?
I hadn’t had issues either but a lot of people seem to. I don’t have wooden, only plastic, so maybe that is why.
It’s true, the bathroom connected to our guest bedroom doesn’t get a lot of use. We keep that lid up with the bathroom door closed (to keep the cats out of the water) to avoid the mold. I’ve never encountered that problem on a toilet used even once a week though.
Yeah I think only if we’re out of the house for extended periods of time.
My wife and I just have separate bathrooms. We’re both nesters, so sharing wasn’t working.
Ahh, the Two-State Solution to peace.
I always have wanted to know: Who the hell doesn’t look at the seat before sitting down? Or is the “i might fall in” response also just a joke? 🤔
Habit and expectation can be powerful things. Also, our brains often fills in what we expect to see. A quick, peripheral glance at the toilet while expecting to see it in one state (seat down, lid up, for example) could leave one thinking they did see it in that state when in fact they didn’t get a proper look at it.
People that are used to living alone or with other women. Established habit and all that jazz.
When you wake up having to pee in the middle of the night and don’t want to turn the light on
Also in general, as someone with a vulva, my mental model of a toilet is that the seat only is up for cleaning.
I did it one time when I woke up at 3am to pee. Had to keep the light off to not wake the Mrs.
It wasn’t fun. But it wasn’t life ending. I got a nightlight for the bathroom after that.
A blind person?
They might look at the seat.
(But they wouldn’t know)
I’ve always said if a person sits on a toilet with the seat up it’s a failure on two parts.
Yes the previous user should’ve put the seat down but who tf just plops ass first onto something without looking first?
At that point you get what you deserve, a wet stinky ass.
When youre at home with a clean toilet, treat yourself and sit to pee
As a dude that has 2 sons that just piss everywhere, I’ve always told them to just pee sitting down. There’s no shame in it fellas.
No shame but for me it’s take more effort to sit down and strip my pant always down just to piss, I wanna get it done quickly
If you’re accurate, no problem.
I mean… you should put the lid (not just the seat) down before you flush every time regardless to reduce the airborne particles.
Out of interesst: Do you then reopen the lid to check for shitstains left in the bowl, that would need cleaning before you leave?
I do, personally, because that’s like basic manners.
yes
Depends on how the movement went, and the sound of the flush.
This is exactly why someone needs to invent a completely clear glass toilet.
Or that camera screen setup that newer fridges use to see the inside.

That exists.
It never occurred to me until now that a toilet tank is a great place for fun stickers.
When I was younger, my parents got a small pop-up pool. It wasn’t long before the “NO DIVING - SHALLOW WATER” sticker that came with it ended up on the toilet.
Add that with these lights and you’ll never wonder how your shit looks again.

Yikes
The number of people breathing their own aerosolized toilet water is too dam high!
Unless you’re hermetically sealing your toilet lid with aftermarket parts, this number includes you.
it is greatly reduced, though.
Ah but they’re using the old why get vaccinated if you can still get the virus logic. The only logical response is to pound down some lettuce and blast those particles right back at that toilet scum. Ass testosterone checks pronto
Yes, that’s definitely one of the things I should do. One day.
That’s not even the reason I do it. The way I see it, we both should have to do seat management before use. If I have to put the seat up, she has to put the lid up. It’s only fair.
Ah yes, the constant struggle of pushing a boulder… downhill.
I think the joke is she’s constantly putting the lid down
True, but equally difficult.
Just have separate bathrooms. Problem solved.
