My favorite one was buying train tickets in Poland. I would always get stuck behind someone asking tings like “what would be the price of a ticket from Warsaw to Moscow, through Kiev, 3 months from now for a group of 5 people, two on whom are children and 2 have disability and a return ticket 5 months later but through Riga and this time for 8 people 6 of which are elderly and 2 have discount for railway workers?.. ok… what about a ticket to Berlin through Wrocław 5 months from now for 2 elderly veterans and a return…”. And I’m not even exaggerating. I would change the line only to end up right behind another person asking about some crazy connections.

I know, I know. It’s just funny because not only nothing on computer is truly random, the “truly random” option is probably less random then the normal one.

I remember reading decades ago how music player devs would implement proper random playback and people would complain that it’s not really random because it played the same song second time soon after the first. So the devs had to change it and make it less random…

Everyone knows the housing crisis will not be solved in a year. Sanchez hopes it will be the main topic of these elections but even he knows they have to happen soon or people will move on. If he’s lucky the right will not be able to change the focus and he will lose but not that much. If he’s unlucky the focus will switch to immigration again and he will lose by a lot.

So even more extreme independentists? That’s possible. For me it’s clear that Sanchez specialized in short term solutions and when he’s out everything will get worse.

I seriously doubt that. Catalans got everything they wanted: amnesty for the thieves and more money in the budget. They were basically setting the agenda for the government over the last couple of years. Their base can see this and will not abandon them now. It’s still not clear if Pigdaemon will be back before the elections but if he is then he will be welcomed as a great hero and will serve as the face of Catalan victory over the rest of Spain. This will give them even more votes.

If you’re thinking they may lose support because they blocked the housing decrees… definitely not. It was clear from the beginning that landlords form their base and they are grateful that Junts blocked the new law. That’s why I think Sanchez sabotaged those changes. It would be easy to negotiate a solution that Junts would approve (exclude small landlords from eviction bans) and for some reason he pushed for changes everyone knew will go nowhere. I think his calculation is that he can present PSEO as the only chance to get housing reform but I also think people will not fall for this.

I think the argument was more about if it’s aligned with the goals of the protests or if it’s counterproductive, not if it’s morally right but I guess we’re just arguing over semantics at this point and will not get anywhere.

Right here. You claim that attacking bad teachers is consistent with the goals of the protesters. Saying that only tiny fraction of students attacked teachers and it’s not a valid part of the protests is one thing. Claiming that students are right to hate their teachers is justifying the attacks.

You know what else doesn’t attract dedicated professionals to teaching positions? Attacking teachers.

People don’t choose profession based purely on salaries. They also want good work environment. No person will think “yes, this teacher was hurt by students but he was bad at his job. I’m I will be fine”.

And yes, the government is the one responsible for creating good job conditions for teachers by ensuring good infrastructure and proper staffing but teachers will tell you that kids are not exactly getting easier to work with. “Bad teachers” argument is pure victim blaming.

My instance doesn’t have downvotes but I’m guessing people don’t want to admit that Spanish government is not perfect and they think that only a fascist would dare to say something like that.

Sanchez hopes that current protest over housing will cover up his government’s failure in Ceuta. He obviously prefers for housing to be the main electoral issue, not immigration, and he failed to address the demands of protesters on purpose, so that the protests can extend into the elections and cover other issues. He’s positioning himself against the Catalans now but he clearly has no chance of forming government without them. I don’t expect this to work. People are not as stupid as he thinks. According to the polls his chances of winning are very very slim.
