TBF, Kansas city was named first by 4 years. Also, for the most part, Kansas isn’t really any better than Missouri

Didn’t the Missouri side of Kansas City spring up because whoring and drinking and whatnot weren’t allowed in Kansas because of puritans, so the Kansans would cross into Missouri for that?

          1. Kansas and Missouri are equally shit.

          2. we have the Ozark mountains, but they’ve eroded to large hills.

As a missourian(unfortunately) let me have at least a bit of feel good time.

maybe they were started on the other side of the line/river/whatever and expanded into missourah because land is so cheap. because no one wants to exist there. i don’t know if this is true or not but i have decided that regardless of history it is.

That is like the entire United States honestly. The land is perfect. Geography is amazing. But the people are just horrible.

There are a few very lucky small towns which are pockets of leftists in the middle of gorgeous American nature. You just have to really look for them.

Also, Nebraska. Omaha is right on the Eastern border. The only other towns are along the interstate, spaced about a tank of gas apart.

the main driver of economic change and expansion has been improvements in transportation technology (note: my focus has been on 19th century history so maybe that changed in the 20th. idk, i don’t study this shit anymore)

Major cities pop up around interesting geographical boundaries (like rivers) and that’s also where the state lines were drawn, I’m guessing. It’s why NYC is trying to get into NJ as well.

This is a phenomenal meme. Much better than the calorie stealing one. Not the bear I’ve seen ofc but it’s some clever observational humour. 8/10

I guess Joplin or Branson would be the only other options, but I haven’t lived there in years.

KCMO does not want to be in another state, because it is far, far superior - and older than its Kansas counterpart, which oddly enough is named after it.

    That’s right.

Kansas City, KS is named after Kansas City, MO

      How about Springfield?

My parents retired to the Ozarks 30ish years ago. Beautiful area, had a house built on the side off a mountain in the middle of nowhere (Cape Fair technically, but same difference.) I just remember Springfield being the closest city if you needed anything better than what the Walmart in Branson West could provide.

Yep. The Kansas River was originally named after the native Kansa (or Kaw) tribe. Then the city was named after the river. Then a while later, the state was also named after the river and the other city was named after the first city. Clear as the muddy river.

Branson is a shithole tourist trap that’s dead or dying.

Joplin is famous for its tornado.

those two aren’t doing Missouri any favors.

They have a publicly funded zoo? I hope they treat the animals better. I’ve always wanted to visit. Thinking of taking my son next year to the TransWorld convention next year, his special interest is animatronics and Halloween, he really wants to go.

The Zoo, Art Museum , Science Center, and History Museum are all free and publicly funded. Those are all in Forest Park which is a great place on its own. There are some exhibits you have to pay for but most things are free.
