A Maryland hairdresser who voted for Donald Trump in 2024 after believing his promises to lower living costs said she has since lost her home and car, struggled to pay her credit cards, and watched customers disappear from her business. Now, she bitterly regrets helping return him to the White House, declaring that only the devil could govern with such cruelty.

Celia Salmerón, 58, accused the Trump administration of bringing hardship rather than the financial relief he promised voters. She immigrated from El Salvador as a child, and now runs a hair salon in a working-class Maryland neighbourhood with a large Hispanic population.

‘He promised to give us money. But he didn’t give us anything. What he gave us this time were problems,’ Salmerón recently told a media outlet, adding that she had been unable to keep up with her debts and had lost almost everything she worked to build.

‘Ever since Trump came in, I have been bankrupt. I have lost everything: my house, my car. I can’t pay my credit cards,’ she said.

Some people say it ironically, in jest, or with hyperbole…

I don’t. I mean that shit. He is literally satan.

I’m an agnostic, but the one thing that’s nudging me toward belief is the fact that the literal devil is running the white house.

I think you’re insulting the devil by saying that. Maybe he’d pursue the same policies, but he certainly wouldn’t be stupid enough to handle them so incompetently… The result would be the same, but people would cheer for the real devil instead of this idiot.

Only the devil could govern with such cruelty.

The good book says the devil has come to steal, kill, and destroy. He had no shortage of that in his first admin. He also raised the cost of living in his first admin. Why you would believe he would completely change his behavior after he has been morally consistent pretty much his entirely life is asinine.

No, he promised to kick you out of the country. Why did you vote for a guy that wanted to ruin your life?

It’s insane how many people thought “Trump’s” gas prices were great, so they voted for him to do it again. Y’all, that was during a planetary-wide pandemic and no one was driving. They bitched about staying home but loved the gas prices because they did so. Unfucking real.

Why did you vote for a guy that wanted to ruin your life?

Probably preaching to the choir, but a huge part of the conservative voting block is immigrants (and other minority groups) who see themselves as having done it the “right” way or are somehow otherwise better or different.

See also: the overrepresentation of Latinos in border patrol (which is also economic in some border communities).

Lots of liberal types are incapable of recognizing that, so their strategies inevitably fail.

Let’s say even if liberal politicians do recognize that, how would you even appeal to that kind of person? There’s a certain delusion there where rational thinking doesn’t even apply…

I dont know, but I do know it can’t just be ignored. Delusion isnt something you can really snap someone out of cause our brains dont work that way. It takes time for things to get wired up, and time for things to rewire. It might feel good to tell someone like this that they are an idiot, but it doesnt help. You just have to gently chip away at them as hard as that is.

The problem is essentially just a lack of solidarity. I know someone from an immigrant family who is far right. As far as I know, it hasn’t been a problem for anyone in their family (yet). I just try to make it clear that I see them the same as any other immigrant family (which they probably hate) in non-political discussions.

Stuff like “immigrant families like yours always have cool traditions” or “your _____ immigrant community is so tight knit”, or “I’d hate to lose immigrant communities like yours”.

I basically want it to set off their alarm bells that if society is coming after immigrant communities, they’ll be next, but I want them to come to that conclusion by themselves.

It’s not ideal since it is a little stereotype-y, but I dont know a better strategy from an outsider.

He did change his behavior though. He’s so much worse now, completely mask off Nazi. He at least pretended to be human last time.

I thought at first that Trump’s hairdresser regretted their vote, because now everyone sees their awful work…

What’s ironic is that for being so into the Bible, they sure miss that he’s checked pretty much every box for what revelations said the anti Christ would do.

Actually, that raises an interesting point: I’m sure we’ve both seen the Benjamin Corey blog enumerating the ones he has fulfilled, but is there a list of the ones he has yet to fulfill somewhere?

‘If I had known this man was going to behave this way, I would not have voted for him. And I regret voting for him,’ she added.

Where was Salemerón from 2016 to 2020? His behaviour should have been fully evident by then. This is a joke list but there were already signs the antichrist was in our realm, somehow not easily noticed.
