It’s not like people actually cared about the victims of previous disasters. Covid, ebola and all the other things (wars also).
In my mind I always see a post about Warhammer40k where they said the emperor kills 1000 people a day just to stay alive - and how thankful we would be if only 1000 people would be killed for the rich and not more.

Those are only the people directly consumed by the emperor. The wealthy still kill many millions daily in 40k
That’s 365000, so nearly half a million but lower than what I’d imagine nearly 500k to be. Can’t believe that universe is ‘better’
And thats only because of the heat - if you start really counting how many deaths are happening just because the rich can save a penny…
The War on Terror, which became largely about plundering Iraq’s natural resources, killed over 4 million people.
So it goes, the death of one man is a tragedy, but the death of millions is just a statistic.
My understanding is a lot of the rich assholes with the power to do something about this view these deaths as desirable.
They decided their profits were more important than your life a long time ago.
