There was a man hooked up to an artificial heart for an extended period of time. He had no pulse. I’m sure he tried to feel for it as anyone would in that situation.
This sub needs better moderation.
Why does everyone always have to show up in the comments and pop my bubble /s
You must use this superpower for good.
“Nobody has ever invented a cure for cancer that can be created using a simple process with common household ingredients.”
Brutal comeback
Okay this would be surreal as fuck after the surgery, feeling for your own pulse and getting nothing in return. That’s straight up sci-fi.
Now add the whirring and you’re just a proper cyborg at the point. What a time to be alive.
RoboMcConnel.
Funfact, VADs often still have a small pulsatile change, e.g. 2 seconds at 5000rpm, 2 seconds at 5400, so there is a difference it’s just not palpable. The body seems to adjust better to this slight variatons instead of a continuous flow.
My pulse is zero around 50 times a minute, it’s all down to sample length
Is this a Nyquist Theorem reference?
I wish I was smart enough to know what that was, I was just being a contrarian asshole for the fun of it
fs≥2fmBasically you need instruments to be at least twice as fast to sample a continuous signal. This has to do with digitizing an analog signal. If you are not sampling it that fast then you are folding the signal back on itself, sometimes refereed to as aliasing. Im a flunky so don’t take my tldr to seriously.
I can confirm this summary is correct. It’s why we sample audio at at least 44.1KHz even though human hearing only goes up to 20KHz
You can technically remain conscious and in control of your body for a few seconds after your heart stops, while there’s still enough oxygen in your brain and muscles. So there’s nothing theoretically stopping this from happening. I don’t know if this has happened at any point, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
I’ve heard of this happening with electricians. They’ll touch something energized, check their pulse, then sit down and ask somebody close by “can you call 911 and start doing cpr on me?” Before passing out.
Charlie Kirk did
What about that man that woke up dead
You can’t wake up dead fool.
Well, probably not more than once anyway.
Dick Cheney?
