Basically you need instruments to be at least twice as fast to sample a continuous signal. This has to do with digitizing an analog signal. If you are not sampling it that fast then you are folding the signal back on itself, sometimes refereed to as aliasing. Im a flunky so don’t take my tldr to seriously.

I can confirm this summary is correct. It’s why we sample audio at at least 44.1KHz even though human hearing only goes up to 20KHz
