Some fascist asshole is saying that some other fascist asshole is a big problem. Whichever fascist asshole is saying this today is correct. But he’s still a fascist asshole.

Too bad we couldn’t lock this psychopath and Trump in a room to fight each other to the death. Then just throw away the key. The world would be better off.

Mojtaba Khamenei wrote in part of this written message addressing neighboring governments: “The rulers of the region’s countries should recognize the real enemy and confront it… and not allow the inclinations of extra-regional powers to deviate the path of indigenous security.”

    Valid and sound.

I hate Iran’s theocracy as much as the next guy, but he makes a very valid point that should also resonate in Europe, if European leaders have any sense of self-preservation.

I can only assume the “point” is just general anti-US sentiment. Hardly much that’s similar between US/Iran and US/Europe though. We’ve had a cold war with Iran for most of my life and now it’s a shooting war. With Europe it’s more like “the military power you’ve been relying on for decades may not be so reliable anymore.” To compare this to Iran is… imaginative.

as a German American, Germans allowed it to happen because of the shame of allowing it to happen.

I’m not ashamed of my actions because I did all I could to stop it from happening, and anyone trying to place undue blame on me for simply being born in the wrong country is bullshit.

would love to, unfortunately the agencies that are responsible for investigating that are currently under the control of the group that potentially faked election results.

though, the evidence of their corruption and desperate desire to control future elections is obvious at this point.

You know, this idea that elections were stolen are just American trying to excuse the fact that they are not good people. Nobody stole this election, this is what you people voted for and wanted. Sure you may have not wanted it, but 70% of Germans didn’t want Hitler in the 30s. You as in all Americans allowed this to happen, and even worse trump WON FAIR AND SQUARE. Hitler had to play games to get ahead, here you people let trump win!

                you’re not wrong there.

20% refused to vote because they said Harris would kill Palestinians.

another 10% voted for 3rd party for the same reason.

the remainder tried to perform damage control and voted Harris.

🤷 then you have musk potentially attacking electronic voting machines and allegedly changing votes.

so yeah, it’s difficult to blame any one group when they were all manipulated by criminals and traitors.

As an American (assume you are as well, but you might not be), I know from context that this generally means the country, not every single individual.

And as a country, we really have put out boot down on a lot of countries’ necks.

So it’s really really not racist to point this out.

It’s like saying “Israel is genociding the Palestinians”. There are some Israelis who disagree with Israel’s actions. Same with anything Iranian leadership says. It’s the same for pretty much any country in the world.

These unhealthy governments are all over and can see in history, we’re not supposed to repeat.

America is Bad. Iran was one of the most free and socially liberal countries until the US, UK, and France started to tamper with their democracy. When they say America bad its 100% true. Can’t directly or indirectly kill millions of their people and say we’re anything different. Let me ask you something? Do you think people in Venezuela and Cuba think “America bad”? If so why?

As far as 1970’ autocratic dictatorships go, Iran was probably one of the most “liberal”. But it was still a brutal regime. The SAVAK tortured, imprisoned, disappeared and murdered countless opponents domestically and abroad, becoming one of the leading reasons of the Iranian revolution of '79. The fact that the Shah’s regime was replaced by an even worse and more repressive one doesn’t mean we can look at it through rose tinted glasses.

I don’t think anyone is saying that the Shah was a good ruler. He was NOT, and he was propped up by US, UK because he was friendly to their interests. That’s the whole problem that is the reason the current regime was put in place in 1979.

Prior to the Shah, Iranians had a better regime but it wasn’t friendly to US, UK interests so was overthrown by the US, UK.

The “lesson learned” should have been that meddling in regime change can result in a worse outcome. US, UK thought the democratically elected regime wasn’t friendly enough to them, they installed the Shah, then ended up instead with an even less friendly regime.

Now we see the Republicans didn’t learn that lesson, because their voters largely don’t know the history. So here we are again, tried to meddle in regime change and likely just made their regime stronger and even less friendly.

All wrong… The ones we ushered into power are not the current ones saying the US is bad. The ones in power now overthrew the people we put in power. The regime in power now is seen as liberaters and heros.

He’s saying that the US is responsible for the Ayatollahs being in power (even though that wasn’t the intent) because they installed the Shah who the people didn’t want the but was friendly to US interests.

So I think it’s accurate to say that the US unintentionally ushered the current regime into power by putting in an unpopular puppet dictator to replace an elected leader who was popular with his people (Mossadegh).

So I think it’s accurate to say that the US unintentionally ushered the current regime into power by putting in an unpopular puppet dictator to replace an elected leader who was popular with his people (Mossadegh).

Mossadegh was very popular initially, and remained so through the end in urban strongholds of support. But especially as time went on he was opposed in rural areas which then held the bulk of the population of the country, and there was slipping of support even in urban areas as the economic pain of the British sanctions mounted over time that caused his political strength to weaken as the promised gains from nationalizing the oil did not materialize. So against this backdrop of declining support Mossadegh undertook increasingly bold measures to ensure he could still enact his preferred policies, which stepped on many toes. In the 1952 elections of the 17th Majlis he literally went “STOP THE COUNT!” and halted the elections after the votes were tallied for 79 members, the minimum quorum for the parliamentary quorum to be met. That was because the places that were quickest to have the votes tallied were the urban areas where he had most support, so the longer he waited and the more votes to come in the stronger he expected the opposition to become. He increasingly ruled with emergency powers, alienated former allies like Ayatollah Kashani, and eventually went so far as to stage a rigged referendum to dissolve the rump parliament after deadlock and resignations in the Majlis threatened to derail his ability to enact his agenda. By rigged I mean like it was not a secret thing at all, you had to go to a different tent to cast a no vote than you did for a yes vote so it was obvious if you were dissenting and in the urban settings there were armed mobs and security forces surrounding the polling stations with signs calling people traitors if they weren’t voting to dissolve so it was a pretty intimidating environment to publically disagree in. Outside of those urban bases of support, the rural areas were not even provided ballots under the excuse that counting their votes would take too long in the urgent national situation. Many people voting in the affirmative were also permitted to vote multiple times. In these circumstances the opposition boycotted the elections and unsurprisingly the yes vote to dissolve the Majlis won by >99.9%.

To be clear I think it was wrong for the US and UK to interfere in Iranian politics like that but there’s a reason they so easily found support for the coup and fertile ground for riots and protests against Mossadegh; his former popularity had very much faded by that point outside of his most ardent partisans.

The shah was also a great deal more popular at the outset of the coup, only to also blow it but much more disastrously in later years. He too would become increasingly authoritarian and undertake measures like establishing SAVAK in 1957 (which was prone to torture and assassination) and banning all opposition parties in 1975 which didn’t do him favors in public opinion. And unlike Mossadegh who at least was able to hold onto support in urban areas, the Shah ended up alienating more or less everyone. The monarchy’s traditional support base was in the conservative countryside, not so much the cities which had been the strongholds of Mossadegh’s support. But the shah wanted to create a modernized and centralized secular state, a goal at odds with those of the bulk of his supporters. His “White Revolution” was supposed to make an independent royalist powerbase from peasants given land from land reform, enfranchised women from secular reforms and so on while also taking the wind from the sails of left wing urban groups like Tudeh that hated him by enacting measures they supported. It wound up backfiring because it pissed off the landed elites and clergy that had previously supported him, but didn’t generate as many independent enriched royalist farmers owning their own land as hoped for. Many peasants got plots too small to be effective and while familiar with physically working the land were still often illiterate and didn’t know how to navigate buying seeds and equipment and so on that their landlords had handled in the past. They weren’t helped by stretched government which was embarking on all sorts of vanity projects in dealing with the changed circumstances and could not compete effectively with the farmers who could and so had to sell out their land and go to the cities for work. With the flood of labor coming in the wages could be set low and so those new workers wound up poor and disgruntled; urban poor often had to rely on the charity networks established by the clerics to survive. With the clerics now pissed off at the shah, that previously supportive element of the shah’s powerbase flipped to being hostile yet due to the new urban networks actually grew in power rather than becoming marginalized by the secular reforms as intended. And for the previous urbanites, while their interests were generally helped out by the reforms they were nevertheless put off by all the political repression and violence and the bad memories of the coup and so were not that enticed back into supporting the shah. So the shah found himself basically isolated domestically and in respects to foreign ties he had burned bridges. The West was mad that the shah was asking OPEC to keep or raise oil prices high which was helping to fund Iran’s many projects, and there was a big push for human rights which made supporting Iran look awkward with SAVAK’s crueler activities being widely publicized so that also put pressure on the relationship. Even the west didn’t really back the shah’s government by the end when they viewed its fall as inevitable and tried to pivot unsuccessfully.

So might makes right? I’m so glad you have that opinion. Your way of thinking has destroyed American power, and now we’re not the mightiest anymore. I’m glad our hubris will let more rational world superpowers control the world for a bit.

It’s a way of saying Iranian’s don’t have real self determination. They are in control now and giving any credit to the US is false.

Iran elects popular leader who wants oil revenue to benefit his people instead of foreign interests -> US installs the Shah who is unpopular but friendly to US oil interests -> Iranian revolution of 1979 installs the current regime.

And your solution to this is… more regime change? Shouldn’t the US have learned a lesson?

Maybe a more recent lesson would make more sense?

Iraq regime is unfriendly to the US - US takes out Saddam’s regime -> Rise of ISIS -> US has a huge mess to clean up now in both Iraq and Syria -> forever war continues.

At what point do we admit that US interventions probably aren’t a good idea?

We’re just about out of bombs. And money to pay for more bombs. We already cut food inspections, election security, and defenses against foreign hackers to pay for more bombs.

And now we have food that will kill us, easily hackable infrastructure, and a fully corrupt administration that steals from idiots like you by lying about getting more bombs.

Please crawl back into the movie Idiocracy, as you clearly missed your special Ed classes there.
