I’ve done a pretty good job of eliminating most American products from my life, but a few have slipped back in or maybe were missed, this just strengthens my resolve and I will do another review of everything I do.
I’ve discovered lots of great Canadian products, hardbite chips, Tough duck clothing, all sorts of alchohol, Presidents choice products are surprisingly good all around. Coke is the only tricky one for us, but atleast it’s canned in Canada and is more of an international brand now.
not just coke we trusted america on all the brands. we thought we were good neighbours. many people traded in their blackberry for an iphone. canada has alot work to do.
Maybe it will help if you think of “living in a peaceful, sovereign, strong nation” as something you also like, as that is changing too. Then decide how important each thing is to you.
The dude has clearly already made huge, direct changes to his purchasing to cut out American products. He got 99% of the way there.
No need to shame him with “buying a coke means you dont want a sovereign Canada” type rhetoric because it just makes you and your goal look ridiculous. It reads like “you used a plastic straw so you want to watch the earth burn” level of wacky.
Besides quoting the wrong person, try to bear in mind it doesn’t make sense to argue “it’s a coke buddy, chill” and then argue that it’s somehow a big enough deal to spend time defending.
It’s either “just a coke” or it isn’t. I totally agree. It IS just a coke. That’s exactly my point.
Giving up one specific soft drink is a pretty small ask. Especially if the ask is "try to drink another cola if it’s that important to you. Sorry if it seems preachy but I can’t reconcile in my mind how that is a hard thing. I mean if it’s your favorite thing in the entire world and it brings you true joy and happiness, then sure, maybe? But it HAS to be Coca Cola, absolutely nothing else could possibly do?
Pop doesn’t play a huge role in my life, so maybe it’s just not possible for me to put myself in your shoes. But I think we’re proper fucked if that is anything resembling most Canadians’ willingness to sacrifice anything.
You could maybe not rush to judgement quite so quickly. For me, the challenge with pop is that I like to have something sweet and low-calorie with meals when I’m out, and the options are pretty limited. I’ve switched to a Sodastream (used, with 5lb co2 cylinder) and homemade kombucha for the most part, but when I’m at work and grabbing pizza for lunch at the local place, I have basically a choice between fountain diet coke/pepsi & a can from the vending machine. I could get plain water, sure, but I’d rather have something nicer.
Cove Soda, from the Maritimes, is very good, but it’s hard to get my hands on in any kind of quantity. There’s various low-cal sodas out there. Trouble is, it needs planning to bring from home, and enough self-restraint to not just drink it mindlessly at my desk! The convenience store near work used to sell it, but they went out of business and I’d have to walk a solid 20 minutes to get to the larger market.
I used to buy Costco flats of coke zero and drink them at my desk, but gave that up (even before the Trump fuckery) because it was an unhealthy amount.
Anyway. I’ve cut back, but as I said, coke(/pepsi) has been a particular challenge for me.
And jesus, please, just cut me some fucking slack, I’m trying.___
Interesting it sounds like it’s diet Coke specifically. Granted you said you used to drink coke Zero but there is apparently a very real, very large group of diet Coke devotees. Like they’ll say coke Zero is piss water and if someone offers them a diet Pepsi they’ll kill that person’s entire bloodline.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some people for whatever reason are getting a better buzz out of diet Coke specifically. Not saying it’s you, but hey, something to think about.

Where he lists a half dozen things hes shifting to buy Canadian, and also that he is constantly thinking and trying to shift the rest of his purchasing to Canada.
After reading that, you think a half dozen comments about soda pop and then this bat shit line:
But I think we’re proper fucked if that is anything resembling most Canadians’ willingness to sacrifice anything
Is somehow justified?
Zeolatry isn’t an argument, my dude. You come off as maniacal when youre attacking someone who is 99% onboard with your platform already. I fully support slapping the fuck out of the US here, but you’ve gone round and then off the bend, mate.

Fuck Coke, they discontinued Minute Maid frozen juice and laid off a bunch of people at their Canadian plant.
No offense… But you can’t live without Coke? Other colas are that inferior?
not just coke we trusted america on all the brands. we thought we were good neighbours. many people traded in their blackberry for an iphone. canada has alot work to do.
I haven’t found a single cola that comes close to coke. Even coke zero tastes horrible comparatively.
This is obviously very subjective.
Sounds like your taste buds have adapted after years of drinking the same thing
I have the same issue work Aldi’s knock off Red Bull. Even real Red Bull doesn’t taste right anymore
I’m sure that’s what it is. Very sensitive to changes in things that I like.
Maybe it will help if you think of “living in a peaceful, sovereign, strong nation” as something you also like, as that is changing too. Then decide how important each thing is to you.
Its a coke, buddy. Chill.

Take the win you already have on this one.
That’s not the same person

I get it for sure. Coke is good.
But honestly it’s a bit maddening to me if someone can seriously claim it’s too hard to eliminate it/replace it.
Don’t mean to be harsh, but to those people…suck it up?
I have also found coke challenging to fully eliminate. I have cut back, but it’s just so convenient and I am maybe a little habituated to it.
It’s a soft drink.
It’s not even something we’re supposed to be drinking at all.
Is Canadian sovereignty really less valuable than consuming this? Do we even deserve sovereignty if that’s the case?
I am only saying that Coke is something I have personally found to be extremely difficult to cut out.
I don’t need the lecture.

Oh, I’ll drink whatever. Pepsi max, diet pepsi, diet coke. I really like diet dr pepper as well.
So dude posts this:

suggesting someone to drink another soft drink is LITERALLY maniacal attacks

Clearly I’ve got a date with The Hague coming down the line
