If you’re not familiar with Caligula, do yourself a favor and read over his Wikipedia.
As they say, comedy = tragedy + time.
Some peoppe enjoy it nowadays. Which is easy so long as you aren’t a kid getting trafficked or an American citizen
Remember that Trump is just a data point on a trend of GOP presidents since about Nixon. The next president is set to be to Trump as Trump is to George. W. Bush.
I wouldn’t be that surprised. There’s already been a gradual shift in how media treats the Presidency from sober drama to something with more farce.
If we’re still able to laugh about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if the definitive Trump movie has a Wolf of Wall Street vibe.
I doubt it… He’s going to be a footnote. Or referred to as a turning point. He’s a symptom of systematic issues coming to a head
There’s been lots of bad rulers. Caligula was pretty wacky… Trump isn’t the entertaining kind of delusional, even with time.
What is there to say about him? That he embezzled openly and had an obsession with putting his name on things? That he set up concentration camps and deployed brown shirts, but stopped short of genocide because he is afraid of confrontation with the courts?
He’s just another corrupt wanna be despot. History is full of them, but we only remember the ones who accomplished things
When he’s gone, we’ll probably strip his name from everything. His followers are already scattering, they probably won’t see justice but they’re going to be looking for new careers
Tragedy plus time may be comedy, but I just don’t think he’s going to be interesting to read about
Saw the movie. I don’t want to see the Trump version of that film.
Don’t give him too much attention. He deserves to be forgotten entirely.
I used to think we needed to keep the memory alive so humanity could learn but humanity doesn’t learn shit. Let him be forgotten.
Trump documentaries will be to Middle aged Gen Alpha as WW2 documentaries are to Boomers.
Oh I dunno, Trump isn’t so much a national tragedy as a national embarrassment and shame. He’s tacky, lecherous, unintelligent, crass and gross (literally walks around soiling himself), not much of a comparison to Caligula… That and Caligula tried to help his people with lots of public works; aqueducts etc. Apart from ergotism and hedonism, I don’t see it.
I think Trump will ultimately be remembered a lot like Hitler is in Germany: deep national guilt and in general rarely spoken about and in sombre tones.
Enduring legacy will depend on if he’s allowed to get to his German counterpart’s bodycount before the US population fixes the Trump problem…
I think the cuts from doge will cause a higher death toll abroad over the course of a decade or so.
The movie is a blinder too, if you have no objection to some serious nsfw. Also, you’re thinking the same as me, when I saw this:
