He knows. For instance, all plumbing projects require at minimum three trips to the hardware store:

The first trip for what you thought you needed. The second trip for what you actually needed. And the third trip to buy another one of whatever else it was that broke as soon as you touched it.

I get no joy from DIY projects for that reason. And you forgot that halfway through it turns out you need to buy a special tool.

After a few years of homeownership you usually have everything for stuff around the house in the tool room.

I’m just noticing that having a tool room sounds unusual, seeing it written down.

If you keep your tools there, but not your car, guess what? It’s the tool room now!

Hearing “see you soon” from someone you know and see often isn’t nearly as creepy as just getting a letter in the mail with no return address or stamps with a message comprised of magazine cut-outs saying the same thing.

I once had to work super late for dumb reasons. I called the security company and told them I’d be working till ten, so don’t freak out that the alarm system doesn’t get armed. Lady said “Done. Thanks and have a good night!” in a really chipper tone.

Motherfucker I just told you I’m working till 10pm on a Sunday. I’m not gonna have a good night.

She was probably working even later, if she was working st the time you called.

Fucking my mechanic said that. We both paused then he said, “not that soon.” Yeah I don’t like getting jinxed.

A “Showerthought” is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you’re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

  • Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
  • When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
  • More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as “capitalism” and “communism”. If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy’s Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
