How are you going to celebrate Labor Day if not by doing some labor? It’s like celebrating international pizza day by not eating any pizza.

Cooking pizza? Talking about pizza? Taking pizza class? Looking for a new type of pizza to try?

Cooking pizza but not eating it? Taking pizza class and not trying it at the end? Sounds like getting very close to pizza but avoiding eating it for some reason. “I can’t eat pizza today, it’s international pizza day”.

In the UK, if the 1st May isn’t the Monday, then the next Monday becomes a ‘bank holiday’ Traditionally means the banks don’t open, so no other businesses could get anything done - therefore National holiday. Now it means any big business with full time employment doesn’t open (9-5 M-F types) all the other stuff opens slightly reduced hours. The local corner shop, still full on as if nothing happened. So May 4th is no work this year.

in the US we have a different holiday called Labor Day in early September, which was originally just because the weather is usually nice. in the late 19th century there were unofficial events on both days. when it was proposed to make one of them an official federal holiday, labor organizers were divided about which one it should be. the president at the time was a conservative, and thought that making May Day official would encourage solidarity with European workers, and commemorate the Haymarket affair, which he wanted to avoid, so he made the September one official.

so we work on May Day, and Labor Day is a federal holiday. which means white collar people get the day off and service industry people work extra so that the white collar people can enjoy themselves

Well, I’m not using a vacation day. So I’m cleaning out the garage and staying “online”.

I think that is the key for a self-employed person to get something done, to make your mission something else, then you will procrastinate by doing your actual job you want to do. I think it will work I’m going to try it.
