World News@lemmy.world•United Arab Emirates leaving OPEC, effective May 1English
9·2 months agoTL;DR: They just wanna make more money by drilling more oil.
Tnx and yes stepping out of OPEC gives the U.A.E. leeway to produce more without adhering to any price or production cap OPEC cartel decides on. But since Iran & Russia are also OPEC, I was wondering what other motives existed.
I found this BBC article fyi.
- However, the timing of this move hints at consequences from the Iran war. The pressure cooker in the Gulf has impacted the UAE’s relationship with Iran and may affect its already strained relationship with Saudi Arabia. (…)
- In this view, it makes sense to raise as much money from oil reserves as quickly as possible before demand craters. The UAE has financial firepower and a partly diversified economy, through financial services and tourism.
TL; DR; they don’t see the benefit in OPEC and have already strained relationships with some members, they want to sell oil while there is still a demand, due to increasing green energy alrtenatives.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump criticises Nato as alliance chief Mark Rutte describes meeting as 'very frank'English
1·2 months agoBut assuming everything goes well, Rutte will most likely be replaced with a ball buster and not a diplomat.
Probably Nato will continue to exist in one form or another and the job will need doing.
The" ballbuster " you mentioned, would be the position of EC defense minister or someone in similar position in (very) near future probably.

12·2 months agoRussia won’t attack Europe any time soon. The war in Ukraine has already drawn them out so much. In the long term I do consider Russia a threat to Europe but right now they’re not one really.
Ruzzia and Europe are in a hybrid war already. If you mean a full kinetic atack you should specify. Also, when considering a kinetic atack most European analysts believe somewhere within 5 years.

4·2 months agoMagyar was FIDESZ
Yips, I recently saw an interview with a Hungarian whom was planning on voting for Magyar hoping that it will prove the “better” choice.
iirc, Magyar dropped Fidesz after Magyars wife was allegedly falsely accused for fraude or something, like 2-3 years ago or so.
#add just looked it up, apperantly now ex-wife it’s a complete shitshow even more then before if that’s possible.

24·2 months agotheir own interests.
To be fair Hungary signed up to be a full EU member, but then went rogue. So, I feel EU should have some say in the matter. Also, as I see it, for Hungary there are only two choices now;
- Orbán wins and Hungary becomes a full fledged Ruzzia satellite state like Belarus, and they’ll end up ousted from the EU.
- Magyar wins and they have a chance to rehabilitate themselves as a good EU member in time.
Finally, I’d argue that the interest of Hungary lies not with Orbán.

Hungary’s elections are at our doorstep (11th april) and Hungary’s electorate will see Orban’s contestor Peter Magyar, fight strong manipulative influence from MAGA, Ruzzia & Orbáns Fidesz party.
It’s just despicable how Orbán & MAGA are working with the Ruzzians. Fck traitors.

World News@lemmy.world•Explainer: Can Trump pull the US out of NATO?English
2·3 months agoTnx for shedding some light on these rulings. For sure, he’s been pushing the common usage of his executive powers especially this year. It’s his brand and like always every person fulfilling a certain role ( like being President) does this in his own way.
Apart from his power to bend his executive Powers and the common practices amongst most President, there is also such a thing as the “Spirit of the Law”. So like all things in the world it can be used to do good or bad depending on how it’s used. The same goes for " the Law ", some poeple abuse it some use to do good. At least, that’s how I see it.

Futhermore, idk how how exactly Saudi’s MBS, Israeli Netanyahu are benefiting in ( an expansion of) the Iranwar, except they all tend to share the same authoritarian values and ofcourse their notorious connections via or in the Epstein Files. Also what’s the connection between Iran and the war in Sudan?
