The oil tankers from Venezuela were going to Russia and Iran illegallly after Russia and Iran were sanctioned for the invasion of Ukraine.

Venezuela is trying to supply black market oil to the countries invading Ukraine.

The US intercepted that illegal oil.

So, if I got it right, Venezuela is supplying Russia and Iran, both huge oil producers and exporters, with unrefined oil?

It was head to Cuba when it was captured. It had already transported oil to Iran. From the article:

The tanker, which transported oil from Venezuela and Iran, has been sanctioned by the U.S. for years “due to its involvement in an illicit oil shipping network supporting foreign terrorist organizations,”

This ship was sanctioned years ago under Biden not Trump.
