Trump administration officials are reportedly floating former Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán for UN secretary-general, potentially backed by the US, Russia and China, though nothing is confirmed and his selection remains uncertain.
‘Ya, but all the damn candidates have one flaw that I just can’t see beyond, so I guess I’ll sit it out again. Fuck the system, right?’
/s except for those assholes with an agenda
Lol his dick-sucking face
Conservatives are an existential threat to all life on earth. They should be treated as such.
Conservatives really are as evil as they appear to be. It’s not an illusion.
And yet nobody takes the threat seriously.
To this day people generally still believe the trump-Russia ties from his first term were a hoax. I just don’t get how so many people can’t see it.
He said it was a hoax over and over and over. Lying isn’t a crime and the media they watch doesn’t tell them.
Well that’s fucked in the head. Even more fucked than he is normally.
Any permanent member of the security council can veto a nomination, so I wonder how Trump plans to convince the UK and France to allow this. Is it possible that he plans to have this nomination defeated, so that the next nomination - the one he really wants - succeeds?
Plus nine of the 11 non permanent members need to agree. There is an almost 0% chance this will happen.
that’s what I said about Trump 1.0 and yet here we are, the idiot timeline.
If you were paying any attention at the time, you’d have known better.
He would still need to convince France and the UK to support (not veto) any subsequent candidates. There’s also no guarantee China wouldn’t veto him due to their ever-growing economic ties to the EU.
£20 says he’ll try to strongarm the UK and France with the usual threats.
The thing about those threats is eventually you’re going to have to grab the other guy and jump off the cliff just to prove that you would.
and we all know trump always chickens out.
If he waits a few days, Netanyahu may be free
If he waits a few more days after that, hopefully Netanyahu won’t be free.
*available.
free maybe, available, hopefully not.
Bolsonaro and Vucic already are lmao
They’re henchmen. The position demands a notable villain.
Two cunts
At this point it’s just trolling right?
Or, to give it its political strategy name, “flooding the zone”.
In May, the VSquare investigative newsletter reported that a UN position could be important for the former prime minister because of the diplomatic immunity attached to the role.
According to the WSJ, Orbán would only run if his victory were assured, a scenario that currently seems unlikely.
A candidate must secure the support of at least nine of the 15 Security Council members, while any of the five permanent members can veto the nomination. Besides the US, Russia and China, France and the United Kingdom are also permanent members.
Two European governments have already spoken out against the idea of putting forward Orbán as a potential candidate.
Well Baerbock, former Green Party politician and foreign minister of Germany, became president of the UNGA. Orbán is a saint compared to that warmongering ghoul
You’re either projecting too much onto Baerbock or know nothing of Orbán.
Trust me, Baerbock got nothing on him.
He’s a cartoon villain and an amateur. Have you seen the villa he got (in his dad’s name I think?). Junior bankers have bigger homes.
Bearbock meanwhile ran on a ticket of anti-militarism and feminist leadership. Ended up defending and arming a genocide. Next level.
You really seem to have no grasp on what Orbán actually did, do you?
Orbán’s own wealth seems minuscule because he doesn’t directly own it. It’s spread between a number of friends and family members.
The “villa” at Hatvanpuszta is just a vanity project. You’re completely forgetting the part where he forced a stadium to be built literally next door to his “family home”, how he attempted to make the entirety of Buda castle his own personal fiefdom, or the hundreds other vanity projects.
You’re forgetting how he’s managed to indirectly pocket 90%+ of all EU money coming to Hungary, making deals with international companies selling off the country while trying to claim he’s the saviour against immigration, and being the useful idiot asslicker of Putin within the EU who can stop any meaningful projects…
And that’s just scratching the surface, not even discussing how he’s managed to, just like Trump, upend democratic civility and create a political powder keg in Hungary and beyond…
Meanwhile Baerbock had sensible EU-focused policies (anti-militant? the person who fully supported the establishment of an EU army?).
Of course that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have bad policy ideas - being anti-nuclear, wanting de-nuclearisation, and, the worst, supporting Israel.
What you’re forgetting is that Orbán is a close friend of Bibi and has supported Israel just as much. The primary reason why Hungary hasn’t sent armaments to Israel was that Orbán already stole the money that could’ve been spent on support. But don’t worry, there’s plenty enough ties between the two, like Orbán using (and paying for) Israeli intelligence services like Pegasus, against his political opponents.
