I accidentally misread that as Vodka Chips, and was like “y’know, maybe it might taste good? Chips soaked in vodka?” (chips as in what Americans call “fries”)

Only reckon it could work if the soak is before the bake

Dude I live near a place called the Irish Hills, they have a legit Monument To Potatoes on the main highway. Even more, it was designated a historical landmark. Triumphant!!

As a processed food (or fuel), sure. But I think as an ingredient in ‘traditional recipies’, I still think potatos are more common and versitile. When I eat corn, I don’t know it most of the time, while that is not the case for potatos, yet they appear in nearly as many foods (depending on how corn-syrup based your diet is I guess).

Milk is pretty amazing, animals turn something that we can’t eat and we turn it into cheese and if you it put on a pizza it gets turned back into a vegetable

A high number of cheese types can be eaten by people with lactose intolerance because the process of creating cheese reduces lactose a lot or even completely.

and unlike pretty much every other food, you let mold grow on it and it gets even tastier (and healthier too, apparently the mold is great for gut microbes)

for cheese but they use specific bacteria, i wouldnt trust mold/bacteria on bread or veggies, different species of fungi can produce nasty toxins, some are pretty deadly.

Bamboo is crazy - you can eat it, make floors out of it, make clothing out of it, bowls and plates. And apparently beer as well. I don’t want it anywhere near my house because one of the reasons it’s so useful is its ultra rapid growth rate. But it is amazing.

It’s not as hard as you think to get rid of. It does take 3 seasons though, so it’s a long process…

You basically just have to starve the rhizome and you can do it without chemicals even. You wait until the shoots start developing leaves and cut them all down, then just keep repeating that process. If your lucky the rhizome will start rotting by year 2, but it generally takes 3 years. You need to ensure it spends as much energy as possible shooting and don’t let it get any sunlight from leaves.

A “Showerthought” is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you’re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

  • Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
  • When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
  • More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as “capitalism” and “communism”. If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy’s Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
