This sounds a little bit like someone claiming that the German nazi regime shouldn’t have ended because Germany still isn’t a leftist paradise.
Seriously, anybody saying “the French Revolution didn’t go so great” is conveniently leaving out how bad things were before. Seen that way, the French Revolution was a massive success for both the working class and the bourgeoisie.
In the end you’re just trying to dissuade and demotivate people who want change.
In the end you’re just trying to dissuade and demotivate potential revolutionaries.
I’m not just trying to do that. Helping people learn history is the main point, demotivating revolutionaries is just a healthy after-effect of becoming more educated.
Within a few years, they were at war with almost every other country in Europe. Jacobins with their leader Robespierre ran a reign of terror a year until he himself was guillotined. Civil war in the Vendee (about 150 000 - 200 000 dead). All kinds of crushing of revolts in several large cities.
Generally speaking: horrible chaos everywhere, marking the first instance of leftist terrorism after a successful revolution. This would happen several times in other countries that went the same route. Of course, both leftism and the modern concept of terrorism were invented around that place and time.
Cherry on top: Napoleon, one of Europe’s worst dictators of the 1800s century rose to power as a direct consequence of the revolution and how badly its aftermath was handled.
Calling the French Revolution left of center is probably correct, but calling it Leftist most definitely isn’t. Look up Bourgeoisie, which is much closer to your Libertarian/“Centrist” views than you think.
“leftism and the modern concept of terrorism were invented by the French revolutionaries”
They were correctly paraphrasing you:

Whatever nuance they misrepresented is not relevant here. Of course you will now claim that the difference between “invented by the French revolutionaries” and “invented around that place and time” is relevant, but really it isn’t.
Even if a million dyslexics like you came to this thread to claim that I was wrong and they were right, I would not be wrong. This is not a matter of popularity.
I mean, yeah, the other monarchies probably didn’t take too kindly to their own being killed off, but it brought in the First French Republic, that’s a pretty good thing.
I believe Marat was stabbed in his bath and Robespierre was shot ending the Reign of Terror and bringing in the White Terror, so it had it’s rocky moments.
It actually improved a lot of things on the long term. We don’t have to rent land to a lord for example like British do today. But I don’t mind you to love being slave to lords and rich people. Freedom and equality is a tough road, not for everyone.
Sure, that might be true. A bit like free market capitalism improves a lot of things in the long term, even though it might locally sometimes cause some pain.
That went so great the last time.
(For people unaware of the history of the French Revolution: it didn’t go so great)
Didn’t go so great for the rich, but you don’t think the french would rather have a republic than a monarchy?
The French Revolution birthed liberal democracy.

I don’t know, everyone looks like they are having a pretty great time, living in the moment and not a cell phone in sight
This should be a tripping through time post!
Yeah, initially it sure went pretty great for the side that was on the winning side of the revolution. Agree on you there.
What happened soon afterwards, though?
Better question: what changed for the better, compared to before the Revolution?
What did happen?
What always tends to happen after a country’s leadership has been decapitated by its people. The wrong people filled the power vacuum.

Ha. Hahahahahaha… Wait, you’re serious.
Calling the French Revolution left of center is probably correct, but calling it Leftist most definitely isn’t. Look up Bourgeoisie, which is much closer to your Libertarian/“Centrist” views than you think.
If you think Jacobins weren’t leftist and also actively refuse to read, I don’t think anyone here can help you. Perhaps ask your history teacher?
You were almost credible until you said “leftism and the modern concept of terrorism were invented by the French revolutionaries” lmao
Since I did not say that, are you declaring in a needlessly complicated way that I’m credible?

Oh well, I suppose we should all get on our knees for the billionaires then.

You do you.

Surely if you’re renting land to a Lord, or any other person, that would be a welcome income stream?

its the opposite, only short term. Definitely not the long term.
Uhm, what? Capitalism is pretty good at inducing rapid growth but is inherently unsustainable. Unlimited growth is a fairytale
