Rights groups warn of Tehran regime’s increasing use of executions to suppress dissent, with at least 600 this year

Human rights groups have raised the alarm over the growing number of death sentences and executions in Iran, after reports that a 23-year-old woman, Najmeh Amini, has been sentenced to death for blasphemy over a social-media post.

Amini, an accounting student, is being held in Vakilabad prison in the north-east city of Mashhad. She has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison and death in separate cases heard by a revolutionary and a criminal court.

A source close to Amini’s family told the US-based Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI) that Amini was sentenced to death on charges of “sab ol-nabi” (insulting the prophet). She was reportedly arrested following online monitoring by Iran’s Cyber Police (Fata). The exact content of her posts has not been publicly disclosed.

Two dipshit attempts to excuse Iran’s brutal, backwards, evil decisions, two dismissals.

I’m not the one making up excuses for whipping and hanging people.

We’re not excusing shit, we’re giving you material analysis of why Iran is doing what it’s doing. It’s not our fault you’re ignorant of history, lol

Iran is the way it is because of what the US did to it.

Do you also think October 7 gives Israel carte blanche in Gaza?

Again, why do you think we are excusing Iran’s actions? For example, if someone hired a hitman to murder someone else, saying, “They hired the hitman! They’re also at fault,” does not excuse the actions of the hitman. Iran is doing very evil things. The US also holds responsibility for that evil. You’re arguing against a stance none of us hold. No one is excusing the evil Iran is doing, we’re just not naive enough to think Iran is acting in a vacuum. The US is also at fault, not instead of Iran. US intervention caused the current situation.

If somebody said “Israel is like this because of October 7”, in a thread about Israeli war crimes, you’d not address that? When the IDF is forcing civillians at gunpoint to clear minefields, do you think “Israel isn’t acting in a vacuum”?

Sometimes evil is just fucking evil. Nobody forced Israel to carpet bomb Gaza, nobody is forcing Iran to murder this woman over an insufficiently devout social media post.

Israel has been perpetrating the aparteid state of Palestinians for far, far longer than Oct. 7. Oct. 7 was just an excuse, but yes, Israel is not acting in a vacuum! Hamas also does hold some level of responsibility for the current conflict. However, Israel is also directly responsible for Hamas and it’s actions, so it comes full circle. Your gotcha question just proves my point. Iran can be evil while also the US holds some responsibility for causing that evil!

Isreal isn’t acting in a vacuum. But thinking it’s just because of October 7th is looking at the genocide and colonization of Palestinians with no historical analysis. Saying that October 7th is the catalyst WOULD be looking at the situation in a vaccuum.

Israel is doing these things because it is a colony, so it should cease to exist.

Your argument is more akin to focusing on October 7 rather than examining the bigger picture.
