In March 2025 I posted in r/BuyFromEU about my journey of switching from US apps to European alternatives. One line in that post said: “Microsoft To Do --> Structured (Germany)”
Structured didn’t stick. Super Productivity didn’t stick. Lunatask, Superlist and Vikunja didn’t stick either. I wanted the simple list that Wunderlist used to be (not tailored for businesses or teams, not overloaded by features I don’t need), made and hosted in Europe, with no subscription. I couldn’t find it, so I built it myself. It’s called OmmiQ: https://ommiq.com/
What it is:
- A to-do list and day planner: inbox, today, scheduled and category pages.
- Free. Technically you don’t need anything else, but I do offer optional extras (like a week view or push reminders) that are one-time purchases. No subscription.
- No trackers, no ads, no analytics. Check it yourself. The site loads only from its own domain.
- GDPR is the baseline, and you can export all your data any time.
- Hosted by Hostinger (Lithuania, servers are located in Germany). Payments are made through Mollie (Netherlands).
- Supports 6 languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese) and is built to meet EU accessibility rules (WCAG 2.2 AA).
- Easy switch from other to-do apps like Todoist, TickTick, Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, Asana, Trello and OmniFocus by importing your tasks from them.
It’s a web app you can install on your phone or laptop straight from the browser (PWA). No Google Play Store, no Apple App Store, no Google or Apple account needed, and neither of them takes a cut.
It’s still small: 57 people use it and 5 have bought 16 extras. Most buyers found it on goeuropean.org. OmmiQ is actively being developed and I keep adding features without making the core more complex.
If you moved away from your current to-do app: what do you miss most? That’s what I want to build next.
Disclaimer: I built OmmiQ and it’s my company.
Great work!
why would I want to use your todo app, instead of the task-function that is build into every proper calendar app?
(serious question, because until a couple years ago i was using different todo apps, until I eventually realized, I had a proper todolist already synced onto all my devices due to the magic of caldav. Ever since then I always wondered what the point of the todo apps is. )
Is it considered “built it myself” if it is vibe coded? Lol. It has the very standard vibe coded feel to it.
Back in the day, programming a task list app was considered an easy enough exercise for students in school and for seasoned engineers when you encounter a new language or framework.
Did you try Planify? https://useplanify.com/
The Ui screams AI for me.
It looks beautiful!
It’s it AI
Congratulations on this initiative. Creating something simple that meets people’s basic needs, with fair prices, is something we can really appreciate. I wish more projects were like this.
Thank you! I really appreciate it! Technically, nobody even has to buy anything. The most important features are free and there are no limitations.
Looks similar to Super Productivity, but cleaner UI.
Where’s the source? I’d like to set it up for myself at home, perhaps I can contribute some small improvements as well.
I guess it’s not OSS.
Then it’d just be an ad. -.-
Well this is buyeuropean not freeeuropean xD
Thank you, I indeed spent quite some time on brushing up the UI. Regarding the source, it isn’t public. It’s a business, and the one-time optional extras pay for it. Nonetheless, if self-hosting is a hard requirement, I would agree that Super Productivity or Vikunja are better choices. I tried them myself and they work pretty well. If you have improvements in mind, I’m happy to hear them!
I’d only like to at least suggest source available.
Perhaps you could also offer support for on-prem setups at a higher cost.
I strongly prefer products where I can at least look at the source, even if I may not offer them myself.
If he makes it source available everybody will be able to clone it using AI instead of paying.
We live in the age when you absolutely should NOT open your paid app. It won’t stop people from cloning it, but will make the process at least a little more costly, so perhaps people will prefer to just pay instead.
