If you see democracy as a universal principle, and not a privilege enjoyed on the backs of the oppressed, not a selective cudgel to steal natural resources, then that makes America the least democratic nation on Earth.
Just as nobody should support the russian invasion of Ukraine. It’s crazy how people can flip the narrative and start speaking about how Ukraine isn’t having elections as some kind of gotcha when the entire reason is due to the invasion from their neighbors to the east.

Sadly, the us is devolving into a similar state as Russia regarding “democracy” but Russia doesn’t even try to keep the façade going anymore regarding elections. The duma elections? Free and fair for sure….
One thing I can say is that at least the us puts a higher price on casualties of their armed services. Russia just using people as cannon fodder now…sending people out to their deaths by the thousands with zero regard.
Furthermore, regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine… it’s funny how Russia is starting to get desperate and have escalated their attacks on civilians in response to getting nowhere on the battlefield. Sure they have always been conducting a terror campaign via blatant war crimes but it’s pulling out all stops now. Guess they are just upset the tides are turning as they continue failing to get any objectives complete for their “special military operation” lol

Nations are forced to turn to strongmen, elected or not, else we will destroy you, take all your natural resources, privatize your public institutions, force austerity, basically enslave entire nations within neoliberal feudalism. Russia is more democratic than America, despite their defensive authoritarian tactics to stave off our own aggression. Putin is massively popular, with an approval rating higher than any modern U.S. President. I don’t think we get to chalk that up to “brainwashed Russians”, nor do we get to tell people they “voted wrong”, in Russia or Ukraine.

People can vote while a war is going on. That’s never been a thing. It was added to the constitution only after an unconstitutional coup. If they can vote in Euromaiden singing contests, they can surely determine their own destiny.
In regards to the war, it’s not Russia kidnapping men off the street to be pressganged into forced conscription. That’s Ukraine. Men can’t even leave to escape this fate. They’re drowning in rivers trying. They dress like old ladies just to go out in public. They can’t vote, they can’t leave, all opposition parties have been banned, all opposition media has been seized by the coup government. It’s victory or death, and no realistic person believes in the former as even remotely possible.
Over a million men have died in total. No one knows the exact amount. The “Discord Leaks” showed we are not being told the true number by Kiev.
This is what it looks like when you wage war against an adversary you still see as human. Russia is trying to liberate people they’re literally related to. More people have fled to Russia than any other nation, simply for the fact that they are Russian, brothers, sisters, cousins.
The Ukraine War has seen the lowest civilian death rate than any major conflict in modern history. Nothing even comes close. Compare that to Gaza, polar opposites.
If you really look at civilian deaths in total, Ukraine is the one more willing to attack civilian sites, even attack nuclear power plants.
When it comes down to it, Israel and Ukraine are both just fascist ethnostate proxies of Western imperialism.
Yes, the Palestinians and the people of the Donbass have much in common. The difference is that a major power is helping the Donbass people. And I’m glad. I wish Iran and Yemen could do more for Palestine, but they can’t.
Western imperialism has become an existential threat to all humanity. A multipolar world order may be our only hope.
