I would never want to read SciFi or Fantasy in my second language. I can’t tell the difference between proper nouns made up for the book and weird nouns I don’t know.
Also reading George RR Martin’s writing must have been a nightmare when you are a non-native speaker.
A vast majority of every content i consume has been english for at least 2 decades. I refuse to use german localization, because it is in many cases REALLY BAD (as in “HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO THIS PIECE OF ART” or “WHY THE FUCK DID YOU USE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL SPEAKERS FOR THIS MASTERPIECE”).
I actually managed pretty well, although i have to admit i had my phone nearby for translation of single words. I actually catch myself pretty often thinking in english instead of german, because pretty much everything i consume is in english, including the OS on my computing devices.
It often makes me use english in german conversation, and making me grasp for adequate translation into german while talking lol
