Some toilets flush mechanisms require a long hold, some only need a light press. Others, a jab to compensate for a bad lever.
Others need some fiddling for it to go. Some you use your hand, others, you use a square of toilet paper before touching it. And a few you definitely use your foot even though you know it’s wrong, because… ew.

I recently replaced the toilets in my house. One I bought new, but the model was getting discontinued and Home Depot failed to fulfill the order for the second. I eventually found another that I think is the same (except for flush lever handedness) at an architectural salvage place and installed it, but it doesn’t flush as strongly as the first or refill the bowl to the same depth. I think I need to adjust the fill valve.
