Not an expert, but i think in OCD it’s more of a compulsive action. Kinda like “It has to be this way or something bad happens”.

In my flavour of “autism light edition” (autistic features diagnosis in the 90s) it is more about absolutely hating the way pills feel & taste, so i have to find ways to trick my brain into giving me access rights to the swallow function. Combining it with food usually works too.

OCD and ASD can induce a lot of similar behavior. I scored really high on all the autism screeners but the ocd (and other stuff) diagnoses fit me in a way that asd never did.

I try to take pills halfway through meals, because it prevents that weird feeling in my throat.

Not me, but then again I regularly swallowed 40 robitussin gelcaps at once freshman year.

Now, I do have one pill that always gets stuck in my throat, but that’s probably because either the filler or medication absorbs fluid very quickly.

You could try coating it with softened butter or other edible fat/oil, it’ll break down in your stomach fine but keep liquid from absorbing so fast on the way down.

Or do like for animals and coat it in cheese! :p

Hello, dysphagia sufferer here. Some things that help:

          • Maple syrup (sugar free, refrigerated)
          • Greek yoghurt
          • Gloup - shelf stable so you can have it on your bedside table or wherever
