I hated my childhood and there’s nothing that could get me to relive that part of my life. That being said this whole work for money exchange program we’re forced into as adults sucks…40+ hours a week… EVERY WEEK! And no recess or summer vacation!
Meh, I’m not really a vacation person. Honestly I have to force myself to take time off every year, it’s not a loyalty thing it’s just in my DNA to just work, my mom is the same, her father was the same. Though I admit I am trying to avoid ending up like him since he was such a worker he died on the factory floor, heart attack not an accident.
I had sporadic health issues earlier this year that weren’t consistent enough for FMLA and I’m down to 4 hours PTO. If I’m a good boy, I’ll gain maybe an hour a month.
Plus, the whole deal at my workplace was they acknowledged they paid under market rate in exchange for extra flexibility. Now we have new management who desperately doesn’t want to pay us for time on-call anymore, and doesn’t believe in time in-lieu (work after hours, get the equivalent off during business hours). I’m a full fledged systems engineer making under $90k. That’s a lot of money, but it sure as hell isn’t competitive for my skills, and more and more I’m wondering if it’s really worth what it’s costing me.

I have six weeks of PTO and a dozen holidays a year. that’s about 8 weeks of time I don’t work a year.
True, I have a good amount of PTO saved up, but I can’t take it in large groups outside of emergencies.
then you dont’ really have PTO. time for a new employer that let’s you actually use your time off.
