Libre, Collabora and now Euro. Great news!
this one is just euro branded from russia
very fishy, stick with the libre and collabra
And as you can see on the screenshot its all LibreOffice repackaged and or recompiled.
It’s a fully FOSS Only office hard fork. They replaced all the proprietary binaries.
From Wikipedia: Euro-Office is based on software from a more restrictively licensed office suite called OnlyOffice.
Well I stand corrected.
Only office is based on LibreOffice?
No, it means that I was wrong with my assessment and got corrected.
Awesome news
As mentioned on another thread Euro Office has some questionable ties to Russia. Better to just use LibreOffice instead.
Euro-Office is a fork of OnlyOffice, which has questionable Russian ties. This is explicitly part of the reason for doing a hard fork:
- ONLYOFFICE is a Russian company (despite many attempts to hide this), and nearly all developers reside in Russia. Open Source is a global effort, but current political situation makes collaboration hard and trust difficult to earn. Especially when development is not transparent and open. A lot of users and customers require software that is not potentially influenced or controlled by the Russian government.
In general it’s worth reading their github readme. They’re very open about where they get their support from and what their priorities are, and they also explicitly address their relationship with LibreOffice.
Source?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OnlyOffice#Organization
Based in Riga, Latvia, OnlyOffice owner Ascensio System SIA was a subsidiary of Russian-based New Communication Technologies
I wouldn’t trust only office or the fork euro office tbh
Your viewpoint is far fetched. We don’t care about OnlyOffice anymore. EuroOffice is a hard fork. I would say it couldn’t have been solved better. There are no more “ties” whatsoever.
Why wouldn’t you trust the fork? It’s open source.
isnt the 2026 version a fork of OnlyOffice instead ?
