The most insane part of it, to me, as a Brazilian, is that the first Bolsonaro and his lackeys are all currently in prison for a plethora of crimes, and now his incompetent and inexperienced son is stepping up to continue the dynasty as if lt were a fucking kingdom. And a lot of right-wing idiots are gobbling it up. I can only imagine the outrage that it would cause if Lula’s son had been the chosen candidate for president back in 2011 after Lula’s second mandate ended and they went with Dilma as a successor.
If they didn’t have double standards they wouldn’t have any standards
The far right is already back in Brazil. The mostly conservative parliament dismantled environmental rules and Lula was not able to stop it.
Well, he hasn’t won yet. But I confess that I’m afraid that this might come to pass. I’d compare the situation to be similar to the USA two years ago, the difference being that Lula is not yet as senile as Biden was, but almost everything else is eerie similar
And our conservatives worship Trump, so we will definitely have a similar situation here soon.
if it’s anything like bolsonaro before, i think we can watch how things unfold in the us and have a pretty good idea of how it’s gonna go for us. bgl vai ser louco.
i still remember Stephen Fry’s interview with Bolsonaro 1.0 when he was in Congress. Fry is walking down the street after the interview and opines, “I think that is the most evil man I have ever met”
i wonder what he thought when Bolsonaro was later elected Pres.
every other latin american country was couped by the new “donroe doctrine”.
so will brazil.
Why do people keep voting for these ass-hats? They are never “for the people” and always try to grab more power that belongs to them.
Because conservatism is cancer. As long as we allow cancer to continue living, it will do what cancer does.
Cause
-
Lula’s term was a lukewarm nothing burguer
-
which shot itself on the foot year one by limiting how much the govmt can invest
-
Lula is campaigning as if it was 2022
-
both sides are campaigning on “least bad”
-
Out of 26 yrs in this millenium, Brasil had a Workers Party govnmt in 18. People want something different
-
Lula / PT work really hard to de-politise politics, and to be the only viable option on the left (by punching left)
-
Lula’s broad front is filled with ppl (senators, congressppl, etc) that are indistinguishable from Bolsonaro’s camp
don’t forget he just killed the huge working hours reduction bill people were pushing for. it would’ve pretty much guaranteed his reelection.
And all the stuff happening wrt the supreme court. We could go on and on
tbf the far right were the ones to somehow associate the supreme court with “the left”
-
Just put them in the fucking Lulag already
Some people wanted to coup, and that’s the scary/sad part.
wow this is sucky news
Voting never works, it never did.
Stalin. Gulag. Red terror
Incorrect. Voting has worked in several cases in the 20th century alone. The problem is, that voting has to be followed by imprisonment of the fascists and all of their supporters, and it seems like nobody is willing to do that.
(In fairness to Brazil, they at least got this half right)
Voting by itself won’t stop fascists. But Brazil did MORE than just vote. They voted and also arrested the top fascists. We (in the states) could learn a lesson from Brazilians on that.
Unfortunately, allowing any fascists to live is like allowing any cancer to live. Fascists must be completely deleted or they will always come back to do fascism. Always.
Voting never works, it never did.
Stalin. Gulag. Red terror
