That’s easier said than done btw, like yeah stockpiling some long lasting cans of food is easy and even if you forget them they’ll probably still be ok to eat but really what you want is to rotate that pantry so it has somewhat fresh stuff at all times. You also need water, which really is the Biggie here if the tap stops working. Of course also stuff for cooking/heating up if you have no gas or electricity into the house.
FYI, most home solar setups are grid tied. This lets you sell power to the grid, as well as supplement it with grid power, when required. The downside is that it goes down with the grid, so not to back feed and electrocute linesmen.
To go independent you need a more expensive system with a fail over mode. It drops out with the mains, but then fires a switch that disconnects you from the grid. It can then fire up again in off-grid mode. The reverse process is needed to reconnect to the grid.
Solar with an off grid inverter I hope. Or at least have a DC/DC solution to get the required voltages, but I doubt many people have what it would take to handle such high voltages.
