This is just the beginning. This is one of the coolest summers were ever going to have again.
I have relatives that have learned not to mention the heat to me because of a similar response I give them.
I’ll usually say, “it’s not as hot as next year, relax!”
The good thing is youve made them think of that phrase /constantly/

When saharan animals with shade and water are dying from heat exhaustion, it’s super bloody hot.
This time sadly, It’s not a dry heat.
This article doesn’t go into too much detail, but I’ve been to this Zoo/ Lion exhibit, and it’s somewhat easy to see what might have happened.
If you look at the google maps satellite view, there’s a large area for the lions, including some trees with shade, and a pond to cool off in (You can ride a bus through this place which is fun!).
However if you look at the lion house to the top right of the exhibit, you can see these small squares, which are actually tiny concrete pens (basically a jail cell), where they have a couple lions each that are open to the sun with no shade, that would completely trap any heat. I’m assuming the lions that passed away where the ones stuck in these cells.
Unfortunately, Japan has a basically non-existent view of animal welfare. If anything I would describe the Tama zoo here as being one of the better zoos (at least for some animals), if you go to the Ueno zoo it’s very sad to see how the animals are treated :(
Fucking hell. Poor animals.
This makes me so sad.
This makes me angry.
US Vice President Dick Cheney was asked about climate change. His response? “I really don’t give a shit. We need to produce more fossil fuels”
It didn’t have to be that way. Americans could have elected Al Gore in 2000. Al Gore was actually worried about climate change. Instead, americans voted for Bush-Cheney twice
Then Barack Obama was elected. He tried to push for a carbon tax.
Powerful US Senator Mitch McConnell vowed to prevent any carbon tax from ever happening
When Obama tried to take regulatory action, he urged US States to prevent him for doing so
He urged President Trump to leave the Paris Climate Agreement

In exchange, Mitch McConnell was lavishly rewarded by Billionaire Koch and Billionaire Charles Koch, who own the largest private oil company in the US.
The people of Kentucky fucking love Senator Mitch McConnell. This guy opposes paid sick leave and they love for him for that. In fact, if he ran again, I assure you that they would vote for him again
Then 77 million americans elected a climate-change denier who appointed an oil CEO (Chris Wright) as US Energy Secretary.
The American people did elect Al Gore.
The Supreme Court said no.
Americans could have elected Al Gore in 2000.
