    Most likely a stable fly. House flies have sponge like mouth parts for soaking up liquid and are incapable of biting.

      I had never heard of stable flies before. Here we have horse flies that are apparently similar but not the same species as stable flies.

        At work we get deer flies. Bites can be described as feeling like getting stabbed with a serrated needle. Shirts, DEET, jeans, don’t matter. They need blood to reproduce and they’re horny enough to find a way through it all.

        And they’re smart enough to always go behind you.
