It’s not a topic people here care to discuss much, wary of feeding Russian propaganda.

But the latest National Police Service report recorded more than 600 assaults on recruitment officers to date and warned that the aggression has become “increasingly threatening”.

The first big alert came in April when several recruiters were stabbed, one fatally. Then this month in Lviv, some 200 protesters surrounded officers attempting to detain a suspected draft dodger and smashed and overturned their car.

The riot made headlines as President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned violence against serving soldiers.

This is what Europe should propose to Putin. Russia will withdraw from all land it seized from Ukraine after the 2022 invasion. NATO would be dissolved and replaced with a European alliance. Ukraine and Canada would be permitted to join but not the US. All sanctions against Russia will be lifted. Russia will not be required to pay reparations. If Putin doesn’t accept the proposal, the UK and France would send troops to Ukraine.

Suppose that you have no means of killing the rapist. The only choice would be to find a way to get him to stop.

Yes, don’t you think there could be new subscribers who have never read my proposal?

I was going to say have you got any traction? Part of the resistance may be because they are viewing this as an appeasement.

So they’re just supposed to give up Crimea and there are no security guarantees from Russia at all, a country and government famous for breaking agreements when it suits them. Allows Russia to rebuild its military and attack again. From Crimea even.

The security guarantee would be the European Alliance which Ukraine would be permitted to join.

I would assume being allowed into the European alliance would be a security guarantee from the rest of the countries in the EU. Russian security guarantees aren’t worth anything anyway.

NATO would be dissolved and replaced with a European alliance.

The US is never going to allow that to happen.

If dissolving NATO means peace, I’m sure he’ll agree otherwise, he better increase his support for Ukraine.

Very easy to forget that the original, explicit purpose of NATO as an organizational entity was to prevent the state of Germany from reconstituting itself as a central European military power. The organization was co-opted by Truman and Eisenhower as a weapon of the Cold War. And its senior staff was jam packed with ex-Nazi commanders, dooming the vision of Pax Europa for another forty years. But it still ultimately served that purpose - keeping European powers from re-arming in any meaningful capacity, while the US gobbled up what remained of western colonial outposts.

A dissolved NATO, along with a financially prosperous EU, would put Germany back in the driver’s seat again. In the short term, that might not mean much. But with the Russian economy burning out and the Ukrainian states hollowing out, you’re talking about an enormous landmass ripe for re-colonization in a way the 1930s fascists could have only dreamed.

You just have to propose it as though it was trumps idea, and distract him from reading watching anything about it before it’s signed.
