My only doubt about this is: are people calling him a trillionaire USA style? I mean, they normally don’t use milliards. They just jump from millions to billions. So it would make him a billionaire to all of us more “civilized” people, wouldn’t it?
This is not a simple US vs rest of the world distinction. Long scale and short scale are both used in multiple countries and multiple languages. My own country uses short scale but with billion replaced by milliard so it goes miljon, miljard, triljon, kvadriljon. Then India has lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000). No, the two zeroes between commas weren’t a mistake.
