    This is not a simple US vs rest of the world distinction. Long scale and short scale are both used in multiple countries and multiple languages. My own country uses short scale but with billion replaced by milliard so it goes miljon, miljard, triljon, kvadriljon. Then India has lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000). No, the two zeroes between commas weren’t a mistake.

      I want to make clear that I’m not shitting on USA. But I’m genuinely curious about how are they making the calculations. I understand what you mean, but it doesn’t really answer my question. Either way, be it milliards, billions or trillions, we average Joes and Janes are royally and disgustingly fucked…
