“Don’t go – not with Trump in charge. It’s totally out of control over there. There’s no accountability. They don’t seem to need a reason for detaining you. […] I worry about young people going out there for the World Cup – I really do. I imagine a group of young guys getting drunk at a game, getting arrested. I could see them easily ending up in the same place as I did. They’d find some reason to detain them. If it can happen to me, it can happen to anybody.” - Mrs. Newton, 65, was on holiday in the USA w a British passport and a tourist visa

“Florida is no longer a safe destination for international tourists. With the FIFA World Cup 2026 coming to Miami, travelers may face unprecedented risks of racial profiling, wrongful detention in inhumane conditions without consular access, and heinous human rights violations—regardless of legal travel status.” - https://floridaimmigrant.org/fifa-26-travel-advisory

      Please DO GO!

There are lots of great games in Canada and Mexico, and both countries are amazing places to visit

Of course you do want to skip all US based matches, it would be like going to the Olympics in Berlin 1936.

Also impossible to get to many games by transit and the awful design of US cities will leave fans with nowhere to go to soak in the vibes.

it’s insane the crap governments bend over backwards for when it comes to FIFA. I live in Toronto and I swear they’ve set up more security and police for this thing than if the Prime minister was in town. There’s more security now for this than when we hosted the G7 summit. The Public Library near my place literally has a sniper nest set up on the roof right now over looking where the fan festival is. The hotel where Team Canada is staying has security and police around the block 24/7. Hell the motorcade for the team canada bus had more escorts with it than I’ve ever seen for anyone else.

No ones going to these games anywhere. We have a match tomorrow and I’ve seen more people show up for the Blue Jays games than for that match. We spent hundreds of millions on this thing annnnnd no ones here to watch it.

It’s crazy. I generally try not to go to locations where there are snipers present, no matter who’s side they’re on.

Same, usually. Had I known Charlie’s farewell tour was going to end like a GWAR concert I would have gone and stood on the rail to enjoy the splash zone.

Little tip for ya, in case you care: see that question mark in the middle of your YouTube link, and then all those characters after it? That’s a referral tracker, and it can possibly be used to identify you by your Google account. You can delete the question mark and everything after it, and the link will still work fine.

That’s the privacy reason to delete that tracker before you share a YouTube link.

If you just wanna tell Google to go fuck themselves, deleting it also makes it slightly more difficult for them to gain valuable tracking info by seeing how you sharing a video eventually leads to some rando watching the video in a WhatsApp group tomorrow. They’ve still got plenty of info that they can use to track this, so it’s more like spitting in their coffee rather than poisoning their bagel.

        (haven’t clicked on link yet)

Please let this be an old Colbert “Yaweh or No Way” clip…

Edit: Darn it! And I can’t seem to find a clip on the internet anywhere…
