Hey Arnold made a city feel almost pastoral in a way no other show has since. I wanted to live in a city because of that show, despite no city being that cool.
It was inspired by a mix of Seattle/Tacoma and Brooklyn/New York, so yeah no city quite lives up to it. There are parts that feel close in both places though.
Windows across the road all smashed.
In a real American “big city” they might have bars on them anyway.
They’re right next to a baseball field, seems pretty prudent to have bars (or more commonly a mesh screen)
They’re children. It would be broken windshields and dangling side mirrors
Oh no is that Eugene at the bat?
It’s not even functional, nearly every hit is going into the street
In fact why do they even bother with a net behind the batter
The game Backyard Baseball is probably the closest I have ever got to playing that field. Living near cornfields spoiled me with opportunities to send a ball to space.
This is something an American has to explain to the rest of the world I feel. They like being main characters, so this is right up their alley.
Americans have to explain a cozy, local baseball field to the rest of the world? How does this have anything to do with being a “main character”?
Preposterous.
