At least there’s hope for a white shirt once you get where you can really clean it. A solid light color is doomed. (You’ll probably never get it all out of a striped or dark shirt either but the demarcation line will be somewhat camouflaged.)

Remember to start with cold-water washes and repeat them without drying until you’ve tried all the different surfactants. Heat will only set the stain in harder.
