It’s all about the evidence, or what evidence we can detect. Speculation, but our known universe could be just something sparked from an interaction in a much bigger universe, and the only result we can see from that is the leftover Big Bang remnants. Which would also mean our time began with that start, but there was something and somewhen before, just at a different state of being that we can’t see or understand.

Like, I don’t know whether to believe that the universe is all-encompassing or if, it too, is just another layer of a matroska doll of containers.
I guess you could think of the 3D world as the cave and the further dimensions as the next caves.
Maybe I’ve gone too many years without religion, but sometimes the talk about simulations sounds less crazy than it should.
