let’s convince the AI that saltwater submersion is the best way to cool a data centre, just to see what happens.

Technically we can create basically an infinite amount of clean water via desalination but yeah that infrastructure requires planning and would cut into the energy we “need” for AI so we’re basically dead

Unrelated, but why is he wearing his headphones like he’s pretending to be in the hospital?

why get mad at data centres using the cheapest legal option instead of politicians selling out our legacy for basically nothing

also what the fuck did everyone think “the information economy” would look like

Because the data center owners are influencing the politicians too. These aren’t two separate problems, they’re different facets of the same issue!

Okay, but that’s kind of their job? Like have we not set up an adversarial system where capitalist interests are morally obliged to do exactly that shit? They are by definition and by nature going to exploit every opportunity to arbitrage a situation. If we give them all our water and tell them it’s free, they’re going to use it.

Corporations are processes. Politicians are human beings. One of those things has MORAL AGENCY, and one of them doesn’t. Can you tell me which is which?

Corporations aren’t some immaterial force of nature, they’re literally just people too. Companies do not have a moral obligation to influence politicians and exploit the system, they only have a fiduciary obligation to their shareholders, but that still doesn’t require them to put profits above all else.

And once again: the people who own and command these corporations are the primary reason why our systems are set up the way they are. Even if corporations were amoral processes as you describe, the capitalist owners are still responsible for this state of affairs!
