When we have finally wiped out every living being on this planet, including ourselves, the fact that we took these little fuckers with us will make the whole thing a little less sad.

I wouldn’t have an issue with them sucking my blood in moderation, I have a lot of the stuff, sure, go ahead. But why do the bites need to itch afterwards? That’s a dick move and a bit counterproductive tbh

The actual answer is that they have to inject some stuff that dilates the blood vessels and an anticoagulant so the blood doesn’t immediately self seal the wound as they suck it out. We react to that stuff and that’s why we itch.

They use their exaggerated, winged hands to drag themselves forward while bouncing on stunted rear legs. This sounds awkward, but they move surprisingly fast. […] Vampire bats can also launch themselves vertically, like a Harrier jump jet.

And this is why pterosaurs are better at flying than birds. Just like this bat, they used their flight muscles to walk and lift of. So no extra leg muscle weight to carry around.
