French President Emmanuel Macron says he will not remain in politics after leaving the Élysée Palace in 2027, once his maximum two terms are over.
Right, just like Mark Rutte left politics to become a full-time secondary school teacher after his last cabinet
How could he refuse the job of rimjob specialist to the orange crybaby
I already knew that because I’m French.
It’d be better if he could leave life altogether.
Oh yes and they all keep their promises.
Best news of the day. Can’t wait 2027.
Most presidents in America retire from government as well. The only exceptions are when the president becomes a Supreme Court justice.
Do French Presidents ever do anything other than retire?
Macron is particularly young for a president. His political career peaked really quickly, and it can’t really go higher. But I suspect he has other ambitions now. Retiring so early doesn’t make sense for someone who’s driven by ambition.
I think they all become de facto members of the conseil constitutionnel and then never actually do anything with it. Which I think would be weird anyway since that would allow them to influence laws after their term.
That’s the point, they have no incentive to abuse it - also it’s mostly an advisory position, saying “nope, this law you’re trying to pass is unconstitutional, this line can’t stay”. They don’t actually do anything themselves, and I’ve never heard of a case of someone trying to bribe them to reject something.
Clearly since Chirac and Sarkozy didn’t seem to find any way to abuse it, I assume the system is working
Look at the title carefully. He says he will leave Politics.
What does that mean now ??
He’s far too young to declare retirement.
He’ll spin up a consulting company and send invoices for “consulting work” to all the companies with backs he’s been scratching the last decade so they can scratch him back.
Meaning ??🤔🤔🤔
He’s French, he’s got years of sitting at pavement cafes, drinking espresso and smoking Gitanes to catch up on.
At least in Finland the ex-politicians usually become lobbyists, public speakers and leaders in private organizations.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was similar in France.
Ministers and senators yeah, presidents no.
He’s probably got quite a few oligarchs eager to put him on their board.
he’s far too young to declare retirement
He’ll be 50 which isn’t too far from Obama leaving office at 55, and he effectively retired afterwards.
I suspect Macron is much more driven by ambition than Obama was. I doubt he’ll just retire.
Will his mom really let him do that?
Perhaps Brigitte be old enough to retire ?
Didn’t Macron raise the age of retirement for men? /s
