Tuta just launched their encrypted cloud storage in closed beta, completing a compelling zero-knowledge workspace with email, calendar, contacts, and drive. Here's my first look at what's there, what's missing, and why this is bigger than just another cloud provider.
Proton drive’s docs are just starting to be good enough that I would recommend them, but they are far from feature parity with google’s. Just try to make a PDF of a word doc, copy cells that are used in equations to a different sheet, or create a presentation.
Tuta could be a real contender if they wanted to be.
While I’m very happy with my tutanota email, I think theyd need a lot more resources to successfully build the kinda polish that would enable them to really compete
Their email client is good enough for my needs but it can be a little rough around the edges at times and its their main product.
I’d love for them to manage it anyway, I like the folks there :)
Yea its a strange decision from them. We dont need another cloud storage solution, when their mail service still needs a lot of polish.
