“We sent them guns to the protesters, a lot of them," Trump said in a telephone interview [with Fox News]. “We sent them through the Kurds. They kept them, so we sent more to the protesters, a lot of them."

Imagine if some foreign country was giving weapons to Americans protesting ICE, and said here’s a bunch of guns, go kill your Federal agents?

I was surprised to hear this from people I knew in the US. Some were right in with the gun culture and others were definitely not and didn’t own guns. Like all stats, you have to look at the details rather than the averages.

Yeah that’s the stat that made me think they were much more common, but the third who do own guns tend to own more than one, and a few own way more than one.

wtf why would you ever need that many guns? i could rationalize one of each type per adult but even with a generous loadout (rifle, shotgun, and sidearm) and little Tina trained to dual-wield 9mm pistols while she does drive-by attacks from her tricycle, they still wouldn’t equip half of these. this is just begging to get “lost” or stolen by a roving biker gang during a Mad Max type event.

Most of those probably aren’t maintained well enough to actually be useful. I mean, a few of them probably get used for target shooting every so often, but they probably have most of them just to have them. Like how some people collect action figures, dolls, or cars, some people collect guns.

A journalist asked Iranian Kurdish parties. Nobody could confirm receiving any weapons.

Let’s not assume something is true because Trump says it it. He has a long track record of lying about every issue and changing his words daily.

Kurdish Iranian opposition groups deny claims of receiving weapons from US

Mohammed Nazif Qaderi, a senior official from the opposition Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), told Rudaw that “those statements made are baseless and we haven’t received any weapons.

    /…/

Kako Aliyar, a member of the leadership committee of the Kurdish Iranian opposition party Komala, told Rudaw that "as our own party, no weapons have come to us and we haven’t received anything, we’re not even aware of the matter.

    /…/

Amjad Hussein Panahi, head of communications for Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan, also told Rudaw, “We assure you we haven’t received a single bullet or weapon from any country or place, and we’re not aware of the existence of such a thing; what we have is our own.”

    /…/

Hamno Naqshbandi, a member of the general command of the Kurdistan National Army affiliated with the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), said that “Donald Trump’s message is unclear to us. What is there is that we as our army have in no way received weapons from the US or any other country, not even a single bullet."

If your perspective on international anti-government protests is seriously challenged by the involvement of clandestine CIA support, I have really bad news for you

Arming oppositional forces of our foreign adversaries is possibly the most consistent function of the CIA, and yet im supposed to doubt their involvement in the violent outbreak in Iran that happened just as the US was planning to start a war?

Nevermind how untrustworthy Trump is as a messenger - i would be surprised if we weren’t

It’s weird on a lot of levels. If it was true. Turkey would be furious that the US is arming kurds. From their perspective, a fellow NATO member just armed one of their enemies.

They’re probably furious regardless if true, because it’s such an outrageous thing to admit to.

And I don’t know which part of “secretly arming” Trump is confused about but since he just told the world, it’s obviously not secret enough.

The US (and international coalition) very openly arms the Kurds in Northern Iraq, and through the SDF (YPG and YPJ are DTOs so they can’t technically send to them) in Syria while Turkey shells the aid workers responding to earthquakes. To assume they stop arming the Kurds at the border implies Iran has excellent border security.

An armed Kurdish population gives Turkey something to play strongman against. They know it’s happening.

Guaranteed he slipped and mentioned something that happened BEFORE the protests…

Because that’s what the CIA does. Like in Tienanmen Square.

The IRGC aren’t brainwashed. It’s a voluntary organization and members are usually posted near their own homes specifically so they have more reason to defend the people, not abuse them. It makes way more sense the CIA did what THEY ALWAYS DO and armed ‘protestors’ after feeding them a bunch of lies like ‘we’ll take care of you if you just do this,’ and incited violence.

Yeah I’m hearing it was before and the so called “protestors” were a mob out shooting civilians. Along with idf soldiers.

That Iranian government was killing domestic terrorists created by the U.S and foreign Israel terrorists.

What’s true ? Who knows right now.

China’s had pretty bad periods too. Ironically, capitalism is what lifted them out of poverty, they just did it slightly smarter than most. Their size also means they can just ignore things like IP without getting sued, which was great for them when they were still playing catch up when it comes to technology.

Basically it’s the planned economy that makes things very hard to get right. China realized that, which is why they regulate the economy less than the soviet union for an example.

Not too up to date on Singapore so I can’t really comment on that. But I think they also keep a fairly liberal economy?

Mate, Mao ran a genocide on his people. China’s growth has been from efficiently using its cheap labour and the government protecting its corporations from the outside world (you pretty much can’t sue a Chinese company and win as a foreigner) and the ability to throw its weight around in general.

Corporations are still kings in China, it’s just that they have to stay loyal to the party.

Before Deng, China was pretty bad, absolutely. I am no fan of dictatorships, but economically China since then has been pretty dang smart. They have bet long term on all the right techs. Look at e.g. batteries, electric cars, and solar cells right now.

With the very notable exception of their coming population crash and aging crisis. But many democratic countries face that too.

The move came after the Iranian regime reportedly killed 45,000 civilians in their own country.

Holy smoke! They keep making their made up numbers for delulu people bigger with every iteration of the lie!
