Because it’s not just about him. It’s about the fact that nobody is reining him in. There were supposed to be all sorts of checks and balances in the American system of government but apparently they either don’t work at all or congress is okay with the president threatening to forcibly annex former allies because he wants their territory.
That tells us a lot about America and gives us plenty of things to think about long after Trump’s dead and buried.

Indeed, these are way better than a simple opinion poll if your goal is an actual prediction. People who are good at making predictions will be rewarded and continue to participate, those who are just going by vibes or whatever will lose money and hopefully learn to stay away. “Insider information” is kind of the point of markets like this, it’s a way to surface that information to the outside world.
Even though most of the things he says will never happen it’s still worth noting that this is where American discourse has reached. Their president can freely threaten to forcibly annex former allies simply because he wants their territory, and yet for some reason this isn’t an impeachable action. It’s not even a top headline.

Of course, given the community I’m in, I’ll probably end up in trouble for violating some kind of regulation that comes with having a badge like that.
Was he admitted under some sort of DEI program? I don’t see anything suggesting that. And even if he was admitted under a DEI program, Yale didn’t kick him out because he advocated against DEI and so they rescinded it. The issue was completely unrelated to that.
Edit: Oh, I think I see what you might be going for; the claim that the AI detector is “biased” against non-native English speakers. If that’s what you meant I still think that’s extremely strained, he’s just pointing out that the mechanism is particularly unreliable under these circumstances. Like if a breathalyzer has a 2% false-positive rate normally but 15% false-positive rate for diabetics, and someone with diabetes is arrested based on a breathalyzer reading, he could argue against the evidence on that basis. It’s not asking for “special treatment.”

I’m not seeing the face-eating leopard aspect of this story. The essence of the “leopards ate my face” meme is not merely “someone experienced consequences,” It’s that someone actively supported, advocated for, or enabled a policy or system, and is then shocked when that same policy or system harms them.

The next thing out of his mouth could be completely different and that will become the official line at that point. He only sticks to any sort of agreement or position for as long as it benefits him, not one second longer than that.
Trump hasn’t backed down from the 51st state thing permanently, he just gets distracted. Trump is deep into dementia and one of the things that results in is obsessions that simply cannot be let go of. The 51st state thing will keep coming back, just like the Greenland thing.
What stops him is that even though he managed to ensure that there are no adults in the room this time around to rein him in like last time he was in office, even the children in the room that he’s surrounded himself with realize that this is a terrible idea.
Success for Rutte (and NATO) is protecting NATO members against invasion or attack.
If the US’ membership is raising that risk for the other members rather than lowering it, then in that situation letting the US exit can be a net benefit for NATO’s members (which would no longer include the US).
The point is to make belligerents back down by raising the cost they’d have to pay by carrying through.
This particular belligerent backs down so often that there’s a special acronym for it, so NATO’s a perfectly good protective tool here.
40 years is an unreasonably long timeframe to be making projections like this. Assuming the US is still having elections there will have been 10 opportunities for their government to completely flip-flop its intentions in that time.
There have recently been direct annexation threats against Canada.
Yeah. It’s no longer okay to have a plan that says it’s okay if Russia takes some territory, we’ll just take it back a little later. We’ve now seen what happens to the people living in territory that happens to.
And even if small places could survive an invasion attempt by Russia, it would still have an immense cost in lives and destruction. Why not prevent that in the first place?
Or, alternately, preparing NATO for America’s exit. I could easily see a scenario where they’re more trouble than they’re worth.
Might apply to places like Stack Overflow specifically, where the hostility of human interaction made people quite eager to leap to AI instead.
