  • I don’t think your parents not intervening necessarily reflects badly upon them; I can only imagine being parents of a sapphic nature comes with its share of difficulties, much as I imagine being the child of such parents would make you a target to teachers and schoolmates alike. It’s quite understandable that they should not want to add the burden of being the “confrontational” parents, both to you and to themselves.

Still, it is odd to denounce a parent standing up for their child as “threatening”. I agree that the other person’s initial comment came off as possibly being the rantings of a deranged helicopter parent. However, if their second comment, to which you replied, is to be believed, I find their objections to be just and right.

I have many friends who teach as their trade; I’ve no doubt that the plight of educators at the hand of undignant parents is more oft than not of a ridiculous nature; parents being very protective of their offspring. Yet we must not perceive this tendency as eternally true, as yet some are amongst the educators who should abuse the trust of old between master and pupil.

(Sorry I’m stoned and have been reading a lot of Tolkien recently; so I started replying, a bit subconsciously, in his style. I put too much into it to delete it, so please forgive my indulgent follies)

  • Fucking smartphones and their malfunctioning alarms

I got got by this too many times, so I bought a digital alarm clock at the thrift store, a cheap old thing from the '80s. It reliably blares FM radio at me every morning and I haven’t missed an alarm since.

  • It’s not Nazi unless it’s from the Rhine basin area, otherwise it’s just sparkling genocide.

This is what you’re arguing about. The intent in calling them Nazis isn’t to insinuate they’re members of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei and no one would assume that’s the intent.

“Nazi” is common parlance as a shorthand for genocidal fascists because the Nazis are by far the most well-known genocidal fascists.

The meaningless semantic argument you’re putting forth is either a useless distraction, or you’re simply purposefully arguing in bad faith to derail the conversation.

  • Thanks, I’ll make sure to pass the compliment onto her!

My city is kinda shit for cycling, bike theft is pretty bad and there’s a severe lack of cycling infrastructure. I always carry both the folding lock visible in the picture and a u-lock. It’s also a rather large bike, anyone under 6 feet tall would struggle to ride away with it.

The cruiser bars allow for a really upright riding position, which I prefer for visibility purposes with how dangerously people drive here.

Despite being a bike dedicated to urban riding, she’s been known to venture down the odd rural route or ATV trail.

  • This reminds me of my local “$CITY’s Worst Drivers” Facebook group, where every single post has a bunch of racist comments saying that every bad driver is an immigrant.

As someone who almost gets killed by drivers on a weekly basis (yay commuting by bicycle in North America!) I confirm everyone sucks at driving. All genders, races, ages. It’s almost as if cars are an inherently dangerous and shitty means of transportation.
