I’m somewhat similar, I’m living in Ontario but when I visit family in Newfoundland the Newfie accent creeps into my speech.
I’m pretty sure the first one is Voldemort from Harry Potter but I could be wrong.
Powders, yes, basically every meal. But I don’t always sautée them. Powered doesn’t have the same smell, and you can’t always use sautéed onion and garlic in every meal.
Lots of people don’t care about food, it’s just something to make them go from hungry to not hungry. “It fills a hole” is something I’ve heard many times, referring to food. Plenty of people just don’t care. I honestly was like that until I moved out and had to do the cooking myself. Now I can appreciate a home cooked meal or fancy restaurant meal more, but I’m still not a foodie. As long as it isn’t disgusting and it fills me up, I don’t really care. I’ll enjoy a nice meal more than a bland one, but I don’t have a strong feeling about it either way.
Cooking for my dad can be a little annoying sometimes because he’s definitely not a foodie. Many times my mom will make him a nice meal, ask him how it is, and his response is always “yeah it’s good” no matter what. Nowadays she cooks for herself and makes enough for him, because she knows he just doesn’t care, as long as it’s enough to fill him up. And I know a lot of people that are like that too.
I remember reading a comment on here one time that said anytime you’ve got people coming over for dinner, cook some onions and garlic in oil, even if you don’t need them for the meal. The smell alone will both make your guests hungry and also get excited for a good meal (assuming they’re into food).

World News@lemmy.world•Pete Hegseth's use of Canadian character Franklin the turtle in post about boat strikes prompts anger, mockeryEnglish
50·1 month agoWait, that was real? I only saw the screenshot on Lemmy and assumed it was a shitpost.
Fair enough. I mostly just use Lemmy now, but I still use Instagram for hockey and baseball content, and YouTube for long-form video content.
It sounds like I don’t have much of a use for BlueSky/Mastodon/etc then. I see enough politics and tech stuff on Lemmy, I don’t need all that elsewhere too.
Is there much outside of tech and politics? I’ve seen some cat stuff too but that’s about it. I love cat content but I see enough politics on lemmy and I’m not super into tech.
My two cats just turned a year old recently, I’ve never been attacked by either of them.

Leopards Ate My Face@lemmy.world•Furious MAGA Customers Say They Got ‘Scammed’ by Trump WatchesEnglish
3·3 months agoYou can get a used Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Tourbillon for around 30k at the low end I think. Not saying JLC is the cheapest on the market (it’s definitely not) but they’re excellent watches without being too bloated in price for what you get. I’m sure brand new is a bit more expensive but if you can get a JLC for a third of the price, that’s saying something.

4·3 months agoI mean, at least it has an expensive complication that somewhat justifies its price? Not that a tourbillon is worth 100k but it is still a very expensive complication. I wouldn’t put it past these guys to sell a quartz watch for 100k.

11·3 months agoNot super important but just to say, Rolex is far more expensive than these. The most expensive option for the Trump watch is still cheaper than the cheapest model of Rolex. And that’s assuming you can even buy it at retail value, which is impossible in most places. Most jewelry stores won’t sell you a Rolex unless you have purchase history with them, and as such used prices are often way higher than brand new.
Vintage is a different story, some cheaper vintage Rolexes can go for under 5k (and some rare ones can be exponentially more expensive too), but if we’re talking new, they’re all more expensive than these Trump watches.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Alien (1979) predates Predator (1987)
2·3 months agoYeah, I’m aware they’re not great movies. I still want to see them anyway. Maybe I’ll like one a lot more than most people. Or maybe I’ll hate all of them but at least then I’ll know what all the fuss is about.

71·3 months agoFunny, I’m finally getting around to watching all the Predator and Alien movies. I’ve only ever seen the first of each. What’s also funny is I’m a massive fan of both, especially Alien (one of my favourite movies of all time), and I’ve never once watched anything else from either series. So far I’ve only checked out the second movie in each (Aliens and Predator 2) but looking forward to continuing on.

52·3 months agoI mostly agree but I’d say AB would be closer to 90:10 R. I’ve got family and friends there and it’s very conservative. I don’t actually know a single liberal Albertan.
The rest is spot on though.

I’m in a similar field and I’m pretty sure if I told them I was drunk they’d tell me “yeah me too, now come in to work”.
