  • I understand that. And I appreciate you coming back to meet me as an adult.

What I would disagree with in this rebuttal is I wasnt making a claim. I was asking a question. Again I understand the world we live in . “Just asking questions” is a common way for people to make claims without proof.

I was annoyingly careful to show I was looking for that information. I should have explained I was looking for it in case I get asked and had to argue about it.

So I’m still very disappointed people took it as an attack when i was awkwardly tripping over myself to explain that wasn’t my intent.

I’m very upset in a way I don’t normally get online. I feel really let down by our side today.

We aren’t going to get back on the right track without acknowledging ignorance is sometimes just ignorance. I was seeking information from a story I couldn’t remember at the time. I was asking for help. I was met with anger.

I feel this is why things have become so toxic. Obviously it’s the republicans fault it turned toxic but if we plan to turn it back we have to put in the effort. Even if I was trying to trash Muslims (i honestly wasn’t) someone has to educate me. It’s no one’s obligation but it needs to be someone’s job. It sure isn’t going to be the republicans.

So I’m very disappointed in how this played out, not because of my ego but because of what it means for our cause. We have to talk to people or it won’t get better.

But what do I know. I’m not anyone special. But I’m trying. We need to try. All of us.

  • “Jokes are supposed to be funny” that’s wrong. What makes something a joke is intent. Good joke or bad joke can be argued but if the message was intended to be a joke… then it’s a joke.

Not every joke needs to be funny to you personally or funny to anyone at all besides the person making a joke.

    Buy a dictionary.

  • “Over the past decade scores of charter schools have popped up all over the U.S., all sharing some common features. Most of them are high-achieving academically, they stress math and science, and one more thing: they’re founded and largely run by immigrants from Turkey who are carrying out the teachings of a Turkish Islamic cleric: Fethullah Gulen.“

I stressed it wasn’t a problem with it being Muslim. I just remembered a controversial thing that happened. They pushed a very pro turkey teaching and took children to turkey.

That was the issue I heard about. Jesus Christ yall. I was very clear I didn’t even remember if they actually did anything wrong I just asked for the information again.

Don’t eat your own. Sometimes you have to believe people when they are annoyingly clear they aren’t making an attack just asking a question.

  • Wow I didn’t mean to come off as disingenuous.

It was a company that operated multiple schools.

If I had the source I wouldn’t be asking the question.

I know the phrase “just asking questions “ gets thrown around a lot but I’m literally just asking because I can’t remember the details and could absolutely be wrong.

Lastly it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. For the record I’m against the voucher program and for public schools specifically because education and religious education should probably be entirely separate.

Edit: you know what I take back my apology. I could not have been more clear that I was asking people for that story I heard a while back. Like I get we are all sensitive right now but it pretty obvious I wasn’t attacking anyone in any way.

You were all to lazy to look it up, like I was, so you hit downvote instead. I’m not sorry for my question. I phrased it perfectly. Including it was a single company with multiple schools.

I’m also a democrat. It’s tough times but we can’t eat our own. Answer questions or don’t. You aren’t helping anyone by assuming everyone has bad intentions.

  • Wasn’t there a series of charter schools that are actually pretty bad that were Muslim?

I’m not talking bad about Muslim people or religion.

I’m pretty sure I heard about a group of charter schools doing the whole “kick out kids with bad grades so you can say you have the best school” type of thing. And one of the groups of schools caught doing that happened to be Muslim?

Just asking for clarification not trying to slam anyone if I’m wrong.

Edit: For fucks sake you guys.

“In May 2016, Amsterdam & Partners LLP filed a complaint with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) alleging Harmony Public Schools engaged in employment discrimination based on national origin and gender, improper vendor selection, and misappropriation of public funds. The complaint also raised concerns about potential ties to the Gülen movement, led by Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen.[18]”

Exactly like I explained. A Muslim school but the problem wasn’t about them being Muslim. Discrimination and misuse of funds.

Not religious. To be clear the case may be unfair I don’t know, but that was my question. It sounded familiar so I asked. I’m not a keyboard warrior doing activism from a toilet seat. Im talking to people and changing minds. I need the answer because someone’s going to ask me and I need and answer. Don’t worry I found it myself.

Don’t eat your own. One Quick Look at my profile would show I’m very open minded and a democrat. Chill out. Let people question things or we become just as bad as trump. It was honest and in good faith. Chill out.

Edit 2: I know I’m ranting now but I’m upset. This is why we have so much trouble swaying the vote. Everyone wants to put their foot down and say “it’s not my job to explain things” and that’s all well in good but it’s exactly how we got here. It has to be someone job. We have to answer questions and help people understand things. This is why things are so fucked. If it’s an honest question meet it honestly. Work with people. That’s why everything is so screwed up.

  • I see what you’re saying and I’m sure science wise it’s technically correct.

Even with your language example… yes a a certain point you have do say “okay that’s French”

Much like the color too. Yes the middle is purple but that doesn’t change the fact that at some point in the gradient it becomes blue.

There the old saying “at what point do grains of rice become a pile of rice”

It’s impossible to say sure, but theirs is a point in my opinion. We draw distinctions for things all the time for other things too.

We have a line where you’re too drunk to drive. A whole movie about people turning a hill into mountain.

100.4 degrees is a fever according to my last hospital visit.

It’s not strange for us to look for “here’s the line”

  • I disagree with science I guess then.

I consider like life and death. I can point at someone alive and I can point at someone dead but in between it gets tricky.

There’s is an exact line between life and death but it’s impossible to really say exactly where that is.

At a certain point you have to call an individual a human. Their parents would therefore not be “human”

We may not know exactly where that line is and that line is probably arbitrary and basically meaningless but there has to be a line where you say “okay that’s a human “
