Just as Russian President Vladimir Putin was clear about his intentions toward Ukraine, Chinese President Xi Jinping has left no doubt about his plans for Taiwan. The only way to deter him from pursuing “reunification” with the island is to make clear that the costs of doing so will be punishing.

Last month, Japan’s new prime minister, Takaichi Sanae, stated that Chinese aggression against the self-governing democratic island could constitute a “survival-threatening situation” for Japan, warranting a military response.

Takaichi is right, but it is not just Japan that would be affected. Because Taiwan produces 90% of the world’s most advanced semiconductors and hosts one of its most vibrant globalized tech ecosystems, a blockade or invasion would send shockwaves through the global economy, potentially tilting the race for AI leadership in China’s favor. The fall of free Taiwan would also upend the balance of power in the Indo-Pacific, placing much of Asia under China’s yoke, while cementing China’s chokehold on the South and East China Seas. For these reasons, a conflict over the island has the potential to escalate into a broader war.

Maybe this is not so outlandish if you consider the slow sliding to far-right across all of Europe in the lasf few years. Fascists standing together, and all that.

Japan is lead by a hawkish neonazi silver spoon thatcherite. Europe should avoid being in agreement with her.

A stopped clock is right twice a day. People are complicated, they can be wrong about many things but still right on occasion. I try to see complexity and look at things on a per issue basis.

For example I really think Trump is super dangerous for our country and wish he could be removed from office but he’s right to want to lower Marijuana’s classification.

Japan and the US harboured the biggest monster that has ever existed on the planet earth. He vivissected Chinese war prisioners and was the invisible face of the brutal Japanese occupation of China. Anyone defending any kind of Japanese say in the territorial integrity of China should pick up a book every now and then.

FYI, Chiang Kai-shek was a far right extremist. The only reason Taiwan has been stable was the status quo, they laundered the image of goods produced in China to the world while serving as an unsinkable carrier for the US. This was and IS, exedingly profitable! The US wants to stirr shit, as usual, to further their hegemony, so they are again pushing for conflict. Luckily, the majority of the Taiwanese people seem to disagree and rightfully trust the US and Japan even less than they do China. Lest we forget, the US murdered the Japanese economy in the 80s when the manufacturing was transitioning to high tech and was tariffed close to extinction by another Hollywood president. When the US inevitably gives up on Taiwan, and it will, they better have an exit plan, and the status quo will look much better then than outright integration into China.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has left no doubt about his plans for Taiwan

…by neither invading it nor doing anything else that Putin has done?

Yeah, history started about a century ago tops and it’s supposed to be a Western little fort, of course, my bad. 🤷

No, it’s a Chinese island that was ceded to Imperial Japan in 1895 during their war, becoming a Japanese colony, and then it became an American colony post-WW2 with the rest of Japan (in everything but name, ofc). You’re either very ignorant or enjoy spreading misinformation.

              No, this is 2025

You’re either very ignorant or enjoy spreading misinformation.

Sir, I’m informed accordingly to modern age. I don’t follow your colonial mindset or base reality on something that happened generations ago. Now that’s prime example of stupidity.

I’m literally arguing against that while you seem to be in support of it.

When was the last time Europe “consumed” a territory? What happened to Tibet, what is happening to HK and what will happen to Taiwan? What is happening to Ukraine? Are you sure it’s the west who’s colonial and not the other way around? Lmao even
