An Irish grandmother who has lived in the US for most of her life and holds a green card is facing deportation because she wrote a bad cheque for $25 in 2015.
Donna Hughes-Brown, 58, was detained in July after landing in Chicago on a flight from Dublin and is being held in isolation in a detention centre in Kentucky. She has lived in the US since 1977, has five children and grandchildren, and ran a horse farm in Troy, Missouri.
Her husband, Jim Brown, a US citizen and military veteran, told reporters his wife was not a criminal and that he “100%” regretted voting for Donald Trump as president.
Just to be clear, even a small check fraud is a “crime of moral turpitude” that allows a green card holder to be deported. There is a legal definition of “moral turpitude” that maybe doesn’t match up with people’s normal intuition.
Any presidential administration since 2015 could have legally started deportation proceedings against this woman. But only this current administration has actually done so.
I’m annoyed that they only regret their votes when it directly affects them negatively in a super clear and direct way. Otherwise they just continue their support besides the higher prices due to tariffs, the shit job market, etc.
He’s probably vote for him again.
Well it DID really suck losing my wife, but owning the libs was just so sweet.

That’s a key identifier of conservatives … and stupid people but I repeat myself.
“I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative” - John Stuart Mill
And Cipolla
“A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.”
And yet it’s less infuriating than the people who are directly affected and still engage in cognitive dissonance in order to continue to believe that their vote was a good thing and that this is just the price they gotta pay to ensure “those people” don’t take advantage of them.
“Her husband, Jim Brown, a US citizen and military veteran, told reporters his wife was not a criminal and that he 100% regretted voting for Donald Trump as president.”
You can’t unvote for him now. Inform yourself before opening Pandora’s box!
He voted for trump so fuck him. I do feel for the lady though.
Yeah, she’s married to a guy that voted for Trump. That’s gotta really suck for her.
Almost as much as the being tossed into a prison, for writing a bad check 10 years ago, that was already completely and totally dealt with in the eyes of the law but resurrected by an asshole, just to punish you and people like you so that they could feel better about themselves, after nearly 50 years of living in the country.
Bwahaha, 100% you regret it. You regret it so much you are gonna fall for the next trump scam next week already.
At this point if you have an immigrant in your family you should see this shit coming. Whinging about it isnt going to do anything. You can’t change your vote. Either shoot the ICE agents or get out of the country before they get to you. And to be clear, I’m not really advocating for going up against a KKK juiced with a billion dollars.
You’re regret is too late now buddy. We all have to live with your stupid decision.
Clearly a dangerous criminal that needs deporting…/s
