My thoughts about the military purges is that they’re a part of the fight against corruption.
With Xi being in his 70s it makes sense for him to also purge corruption from the army if he wants to avoid the state from falling into corrupt hands again like they have during Xiaoping’s rule and his successors.
It’s ridiculous that I’m downvoted by brigadiers for sharing a sensible explanation.
It’s a fight against challenges to his power first and foremost.
That is what corruption is. He grew out of the princelings and has to tactically fight them so he isn’t overthrown himself.
I guess the 8 generals who are missing just went on a holiday together then?
Xi is not a stand-up dude trying to right all that’s wrong in China.
I’m not claiming that Xi is some hero.
But how do you know it’s not an anti-corruption sweep? Corrupt leaders deserve to be disappeared forever. Just like it should also happen to billionaires.
You can doubt the motives, but not the action.
I mean, that’s a pretty hard shift in the defense of your assertion.
You lead off strong with “I think it’s XYZ”, with no support, then when that’s challenged, you’re restating it in the framework of “you need to prove it’s not XYZ”.
Might as well have said the purge is because these guys liked raspberry donuts and Xi hates that flavor. Good luck proving that negative.
It can’t be anti-corruption because Xi is more corrupt than all of them.

If it was corruption matters, that would be official, as it would be a good reason for a trial.
It’s common for people to be disappeared or disappear for a time for re-education. That’s what happened to Jack Ma when he stepped out of line.

Where did I show any hatred for China? Are you confusing criticism of the “Dear Leader” with hatred towards the country and its people? Maybe that implication was deliberate on your part.

Because nothing says reasonable measures against corruption like secretly disappearing people without any sort of announcement leaving the world to blindly guess what went down. A lot of other authoritarian leaders at least bother to make up stuff, but not even that here.
I also think it’s interesting to say that in his 70s it makes sense to be harder on corruption, why wouldn’t there be a consistent pressure on corruption throughout?
If it is related to his age, it would make more sense that he is experiencing some mental decline that drives him to be more aggressive or that he wants to ensure his intended successors have the least opposition to worry about.

I had to look up a source again but I remember reading that they were having major equipment issues like rockets getting fueled with water and stuff like that.
If that is the case, then something like this doesn’t sound that surprising
China has corruption for sure. That in no way means only the most corrupt people get jailed for corruption. Misusing power is the nature of it.
I think, most likely, everyone in the picture has done a bit of corruption, including Xi, because that’s just life there. If not, jailing people for things they didn’t do in a show trial has a time-honoured history.
